what kind of brakes are your running? how many pistons in the calipers? i was thinking of maybe some gas slotted rotors, 2 or 3 piston calipers and a hydro boost setup. would this be enough to stop it safely in time?

4 wheel disc with hydroboost assist would be the best stopping power... and most $$. Full manual with 4 discs wouldnt be bad, but you will find yourself standing on the pedal here and there. Heard all kind of pros/cons with using vacuum canisters and vacuum pumps... mostly cons. I guess it all depends on your combo. Just dont use a vacuum assist booster and have insufficient vacuum to operate it correctly. That would be your worst stopping power. been there.

yeah but even then dont you still have like a few pumps before it goes flat?

nope. you get a few pumps if the engine dies(shut down) but you must have enough vacuum before hand.

I installed the hydro boost system on my 69 chevelle with front disc/rear drum brakes and love it!! Over the years I tried the vaccuum canisters and like you said, 1 or 2 pumps of the brakes and thats it. The hydro boost is so sensitive I hit my head on the front rollbar on my first test run, maybe I should adjust the proportioning valve a bit [ha-ha]. Anyway the hydro boost is the way to go, but yes it is VERY EXPENSIVE!
