I changed my trani mount on the 72 Monte Carlo. After, I had my front u-joint hitting the bolts for my shifter. It turned out that the new Energy Suspension urethane trani mount was taller than my old rubber one.

I discovered that the rubber isolators on the ends of the cross member caused it to ride too high with the new mount.

I took the isolators off and mounted the cross member directly to the frame like my El Camino. The cross member was just floating in the rubber isolator. It wasn't even bolted down! The car is so much tighter now. I also feel more of the road than before. Do the Chevelles have isolators or just the Montes?

If they are on cars OTHER than the Montes, I'm unaware of it. As far as I know, this is a unique feature only to the Montes for the purpose of reducing engine vibrations being transmitted throughout the chassis and body. Since there has never been complaints of unwanted vibrations in the Chevelles, I see no reason why it would be a problem to eliminate the insulators on a Monte.

GTOs used em. The Monte was based on the 69 Grand Prix. Perhaps they decided to leave it as-is. I'd imagine that the insulators are a BOP thing.

Thanks Tom.

After driving it a bunch on the weekend and to work today, I am noticing a lot more sensation of engine and road. I don't know if that's the lack of isolators or the urethane mount. I've always hated rubbers on the end of the (cross) member. ;)
