I think the numbers you have are off the case of the diff and you need to find the numbers on the axle tube to tell what you have.

1971 and 1972 production numbers are stamped on the front of the right axle tube inboard of the upper control arm bracket approx 30-45 degrees above horizontal.
Example: RVC2981 decodes to RVC ~ 3.31 Positraction, 298 ~ day of year starting with January 1 (298th day), 1 ~ shift (if present), - ~ no Positraction, p ~ Positraction, E ~ Eaton Positraction
