I am putting on a new tank and straps on a 67,the assembly manual says the torque on the straps should be betwwen 80-110,can this be correct? The nuts are currently torqued to 30 and the straps are tight, there is 1 inch of bolt showing on the bottom of the strap and about 1 1/2 inches showing between the top of the strap and the underside of body, the straps are screeming now and I don't want to screw this up.

My 66 assembly manual says 6-7 ft lb. I installed a new gas tank a couple weeks ago and the straps were good an tight with not much torque on the strap nuts. If you torque to 8-110 ft lb you will crush the tank or break the straps.

Stallone I believe its meant to be inch pounds not foot pounds.

Wayne and PCB,thank you for the quick reply, I new something wasn't right,I think it was me. The tank and straps are o.k, I'm going to buy another set of bolts,I think I'm lucky,it could have been worse.

PCB, Got mine for my 66 from Rock Auto about 6 weeks ago. Fast ship and best price ($125 ish). Fits perfect, made by Spectra, delivered without a scratch. I'm very happy with it. Check it out.

Wayne, you got a great price, was that with the neck on? I got mine from Year One and it cost alot more.I shot the tank with clear coat before I installed it.

Thanks guys....I've been looking at Tamaraz on eBay as he has the Canadian made tank and says it's the best on the market. He also says other suppliers claiming to sell American made ones are pretty much ball face lying that there is no such thing. Nowadays nothing is easy...........
