Guys I have a 71 chevelle. It has a stupid little 11 3/4 (just measured) inch ghetto steering wheel that I hate with a passion. I haven't really decided what to replace it with. I just found someone has what they claim is a "73-74 SS Wheel". I assume the wheels from 71-72 are the same. So what is diffrent about his 73-74 wheel? I think it looks fine, I may pick it up if someone doesn't say otherwise.

Alright, so I got little response there. Maybe a new question will help my cause. I measured my "co-cart" chevelle wheel I have right now and it measures 11 3/4. I decided to measure my colorado wheel and it is 15. So can somone tell me what a stock size wheel is for a 71? I have been looking at a replacement and I haven't decided what size would be best.

Opinions??? Better yet, pictures?
I am no expert, but I have been looking for a 70-72 Chevelle convertible myself. It looks like most vendors offer wheels that are approx. 15-1/4"O.D. The wheel I see most often on these cars is the 1969-70 3-spoke wheel. I don't think it's correct for a '71 but they sure look good!

It depends which car line the 73/74 wheel came from. If it is from a 73/74 Nova SS it will look identical to the 71/72 Chevelle SS wheel except that it will have a cushion grip rather than the hard plastic rim. It would make a great substitute. If it is from an El Camino SS (& '73 Chevelle SS) they look different in the spoke department, but will fit. The Chevelle wheels from '73-'77 look different in the spoke area from all other car lines.
