What will be the repercussion of running a engine with a wiped lobe. Im currently building the SBC 400 in the Signature and would love to keep investing the money into it. Maybe just by a cam and lifter kit for $169.00. Just brainstorming on this decision. I just have a lot on my plate right now:
2002 Mitibushi Galant needs oil change
1999 Lincoln Navigator needs a tuneup & injectors cleaned.
1989 Isuzu PU Needs a Heater Core
1984 Camaro Z28 Needs a cam & a small block 400 completly rebuilt with all the goodies.

Where do I Start.....
Work: Mon-Fri,
School: Mon-Thurs 1600-1830
Saturday:Wife want to go to a Opera/Play.
Sunday:Football-SAINTS vs Panthers
Saints 36 Panthers 10

How do we manage to to accomplish this.
Then I remember what my SGM "Sergeant Major" (Senior Enlisted Army Soldier) told me one day after I told him I did not have time to accomplished a task that I was given.
"What was you Doing at 0300 in the Morning".

"Fatigue, what fatigue son, eat some of that ranger candy ( 800mg Motrin), and you won;t feel any m*****f***** fatigue!"

"Right Top, hoorah, Top"

The reprocussion, Sir, is that the metal floating around will eat bearings, oil pump, etc. And you *might* end up losing all of your investment in time and money. But I suspect you already knew that and were just looking for a little sympathy.

" Sympathy, what sympathy solider? Defend your posiiton and make THEIR mammas feel sympathy! Here's a few more clips."

Small blocks often lose their lobes starting from the rear and working forward, probably due to the oiling system. This doesn't mean that the last one is always first to go, but once metal starts getting pumped thru the engine that's the typical route of destruction - cam/lifters, bearings, might need your crank reground.

Train wife to do oil change.

Go to Cad dealership that provides pickup and del services.

Wear heavy jacket when driving Isuzu - whap a vile of Moroso ceramic sealent into it after draining antifreeze and rinse - pour antifreeze back aftr 2 hour drive.Wife can be trained for this fuction as well.

Park Camaro till schedule clears up.

I'd go thru the motor. Currently doing this now with my 454, which lost #6 exhaust lobe with 2,000 miles on a full fresh rebuild  . I found overall good conditions inside, but the crank needed .010/.010 ground off - they polished it, but it just wasn't "right". Probably could've gotten away with just the polish, but I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night. I also couldn't have slept knowing the rest of that lobe was running around in my fresh motor - had to open it up. Start reassembly next week... Good luck.

Is it a wiped lode due to miles or bad luck? If its miles drive it til it quits, if its bad luck and it wiped quickly you could have other problems due to so much metal at one time.

Since this was just a temporary engine until my 400 is complete I might just flush the engine, stick a XE250H and lifters, till the 400 is complete.
