My shoestring budget 383 in my 3600 lb with driver Malibu has been stuck in the 8.40s at 81-82 mph with 1.88-1.90 60's in the heat for a couple years now. I finally broke down and bought some Dart Iron Eagles and replaced the 882's.
Went to the track yesterday with no other changes than the advance curve. Two out of tree passes were in the 7's best was 1.74 60 7.92 @86.27 MPH. Of course I wasted the best launch on the worst pass 1.70 but lost a belt.

I think with some tuning I may be able to get this little hydrolic cammed turd to run 7.70's. :D

Could we hear your combo, Richard? I'm at 8.36 in a 3540 lb. '70 Malibu with a 355cid. My goal has been to hit 7.99.

Seems like most of the time all I hear is "I added the latest and greatest heads and my car didn't pick up at all".

And yes, if there is a 7.9 in the car, there has to be a 7.7 in the car.

My goal was to run 7.99 with the old heads. I have been trying to get there for almost 3 years with the old heads. One thing I recently discovered is how much harder the car accelerates with the advance curve all in by 2000 RPM. I have been chasing a bog for over 2 years that I aways thought was carb related. Turns out that it was just too heavy of springs in the MSD distributor. graemlins/clonk.gif

One more thing......
882 heads were never the cat's meow. 441's or 993 were way better, especially on the exh side.

Hey Richard, how's it been going? Pretty good I see.. Was that at Denton dragway or Kennedale? If you are interested we are having a Pro Nostalgia Super Stock event Oct 22 at Denton. It is all old muscle cars running each other. I just freshened up my motor and tranny and will be going to Denton next week for some tnt. My goal is 6.9 on motor and maybe 6.3 on the bottle. Frank Frank , Good to see your still around here. What day is that event? If its Sunday I can go but Saturdays are impossible to get off work and I'm already taking off for Goodguys at the first of the month.
