Hi Vic here from down under Australia. Its been a while since my last post, just need advise on performance gain for the quarter mile.I am running a 1970 ss monte carlo ls5 454.I Have raced the car over afew months and it has run best of 13.07@104mph. the car weighs 4220lbs. engine is 454 ls5 stock, using stock rochester carby #17056280 which is 750 cfm, updated valve springs and crane rockers, weiand action plus duel plane manifold,1/7/8 patriot 4 into 1 headers and 2/1/2 inch exhaust with hooker aerochamber mufflers.fuel system is edelbrock 12psi mech pump with carter prime pump in rear.It has 3.31 posi-track diff with turbo 400 and 2200 stall speed. The tune is 12.9-13.2 air fules dependant on adustable regulator and 42 deg total timming from msd hei, i shift the engine at 5200rpm and cross at 4400-4500rpm.i dont use the air cleaner as it seems to work better cant grab cold air.I have ordered a VARA-RAM cold air intake system i am still waiting to use this. Can some one give me advise for improvement, an has some one used a ram air system and proven on track.Any advise on my combo will be helpfull.Thankyou.

42 degrees advance seems a bit high. Is that figure purely mechanical with vacume disconnected?

Are they 290 heads?

An open carb spacer might give it more topend and allow a higher shift point.

Airclaeners are good for preventing fires.

Lower gearing, more stall and better tyres will make it go faster without getting into the motor.
