: Serpentine Pictures
bubbamura Nov 24th, 07, 10:23 PM Hey guy's, was wondering if anyone has done the serpentine belt conversion or has the GM serpentine belt system on their car and has some pix of the setup. I am currently collecting all the pieces to do the conversion but need to know where the braces attach to. I know there are 2 or 3 braces but don't know where on the motor or on the brackets they attach. You can e-mail them or post them here if you have any, I would appreciate it. I am planning on doing the conversion in a few months when I pull the motor to add some go-fast goodies and do a little painting in the engine compartment. Thanks in advance for any any help you can provide.

twotone64 Nov 25th, 07, 12:53 AM I'd like to see some pictures of the setup as well. I have access to all the parts for extremely cheap at a local junkyard, but would like to see it in an older car. Also has anyone tried it with just an Alt/Waterpump/AC no power steering or other accesories.
novaderrik Nov 25th, 07, 2:31 AM are we talking small block or big block here?
bubbamura Nov 25th, 07, 10:17 AM Sorry, should have mentioned it is for a small block.
novaderrik Nov 25th, 07, 8:43 PM i've got a 92 Caprice setup in my Monte- there are a couple of pics in the link in my signature line.
the overpriced GM setup is just what you'd find on any one of the millions of late model S10 or fullsize pickups with a 4.3, 305, or 350 in the junkyard. late 80's-92 F bodies also had a similar setup, as well. it should be a simple deal to leave out the PS pump if you don't want it. just get a shorter belt and re-route the way the belt wraps around everything to get good traction on the water pump and alternator- just make sure the water pump is running on the flat part (outside) of the belt so it turns the proper direction.
DWJ70 Nov 26th, 07, 9:39 AM Here is a pic of the gm performance parts on small block. There is one brace that i have no idea how it will bolt up it runs from the alternator to the block somehow. I also had to get a shorter belt to fit correctly as well. Not the one in the pic.

bubbamura Nov 26th, 07, 2:13 PM Thanks DW, nice looking engine and chassis! I saw an LT-1 motor yesterday at a swap meet and it had the brace going from a stud on the back of the alternator to the intake manifold but the LT-1 has a different set-up as the compressor and alternator are closer together. Depending on the length of the brace, it may still go there on your motor. Something to check, anyways. Thanks!

merlin0007 Nov 26th, 07, 8:46 PM I want to do a serpentine setup for my '68, but I have no holes in the front of my heads. It has the short waterpump setup, pre- '69. I guess I may have to buy different heads or is therte a setup for these engines at a reasonable price?

Chris R Nov 26th, 07, 9:01 PM My expierence when seeing these setups in any muscle car is that they are packed into the front of the engine, leaving the sides of the motor empty. With the big Chevelle engine compartments, it just looks odd to me packing everything into the front of the engine with the sides empty. I have always like the look of the systems that have everything spread out across with the alt and AC compressor on the outsides of the valve covers, but your talking big bucks for those aftermarket setups.
Motorhead62 Nov 27th, 07, 12:12 AM Here is a pic of a custom 382 stroker I built using the GM serpintine drive. This drive set up is not as pretty as some others but it will work better than any other on the market and the price is right!
If you want full size pics send me an email and I will send some to you... :D

Hey Dave!
That engine looks familiar!
sguillory Mar 4th, 11, 11:42 PM Chris,
I would like more pics of the serpentine belt system. I am trying to convert to the serpentine on my '72 Chevelle. I have a brand new 383 stroker from Summit. I found a whole serpentine set from a '98 Chevy truck. The only problem is the a/c is on the driver side and the bracket for it and the p/s is not high enough to clear my valve covers. I have roller lifters so I have the taller valve covers. The a/c compressor also is too close to the valve cover and also to the end of my fuel rail (I put fuel injection). Do you know where and what kind of bracket I need to get for that side of my car?
thanks,
Steve
bconwayls1 Mar 5th, 11, 10:16 PM There are 2 braces on the AC compressor, 1 going to pass. side exhaust manifold and 1 to the intake manifold. One other brace goes from the alt. to the driver side exhaust manifold. 92 Caprice Classic LTZ
Now, I read somewhere that some do not use the braces...... I have headers now, so 2 of the 3 will not work without some fabrication.
Bryan59EC Mar 5th, 11, 11:40 PM S-10 trucks had a bracket from behind the tensioner to the water pump
also had one from the alternator to the water pump and the alt to the exhaust manifold.
Full size trucks (93ish with passenger AC) also had a brace from the power steering to the alternator and the exhaust.
I have the 93ish brackets on my (59 Elky) 454 and utilized the PS to alt bracket and one of the Alt to water pump brackets.
On the 66 Elky with a small block, I used all the S-10 brackets except one for the compressor
Bowtie-72 Mar 6th, 11, 8:56 AM I used a '95 truck setup, except that my throttle body would have interfered with the AC/tensioner bracket, so I used a bracket for a TPI car which was a late 80s/early 90s camaro in this case. The GM kit is nice if you want all new, plus it's all brand new GM/Delco parts though it isn't cheap.
