Does anyone know if it was possible to have a 327 Turbo Fire 300 Horspower engine in a 1967 2 door sport coupe Malibu? I am being told that an all original Chevell I am looking at had that as an option. But my research to-date suggests only a 275 or 325 horsepower version was available?

Craig. The only thing I can find for a 67 Velle is L30 275hp or L79 325hp.

67 had the 275 hp and 325 L79 327's available in the Malibu. The 275 was basically a Quadrajet version of the 250 hp. from earlier yrs. and the 300 hp. was dropped. I had one back then - 275, 4 spd. buckets, console tach - kind of a "Heavy Chevy" version before it's time. OLDED

Guys, there is a ton of easy to find information right on this website to answer many simple questions and to help avoid getting misleading answers.

(Bottom line, Scott and Ed got it right about what was available.)

I think that you will find that the 1965 and earlier 300 hp 327 was 10.5-1 compression versus the 275 hp engine's 10-1. Both had the double hump heads and 1.94" intake valves. I believe the 250 hp 327 was a 9-1 engine with small valves like a 283, and a 4 barrel carb. Correct me if I'm wrong as I'm just going off the top of my head on this.

The listed HP for the RPO L79 (327ci special high performance) in 1967 Chevelle was 325 HP. There were 4,048 of those engines orderd. The suffix codes were EP, ES (with RPO M01 heavy duty clutch), or ER (with RPO K19 AIR)

i thought the orig. 327/300's had 2.5" exh. manifolds
i also thought the 275 was a refactored 300, and the 325 was a refactored 350 hp
its been a long, long time since i fooled with those things, and they were moving #'s around for insurance co's

No Chevelle small block had exhuast manifolds with a 2.5 inch outlet. Some Corvettes did, I believe, but never in a Chevelle, not even on the L79.

over the years there were more models of 327's then any other motor I know about !!
the valve size, compression ratio, heads , carbs , cams ,pistons, were changed !! the only way to be sure is to look up the year & h.p. option your interested in !!
