Hey all its been awhile since I posted here, But I guess thats good cause it means no troubles. Well a buddy of mine bought a elcamino and think the timming is off, so I told him how to reset the timming and the end result was flames out headers, Now could that be that the dist. needs to be advanced or retarded or is it 180 out ? Its been awhile since I had to mess with timming but when it backfires through the carb is when its 180 out right? If some one can help me out I would be very thankful.

Sounds like the timing is way retarded allowing fuel to not completely burn and then ignite in the hot header tube. Try advancing the timing and see what's what.
