: Nitrous ?
monteracer Jul 7th, 04, 8:03 PM I've got a .030 over 427 with ported 049 heads, 11.5 to 1 comp., lunati solid roller cam, built bottom end, etc. I am putting a cheater 150-250 system on it and was curious on opinions for how much timing to take out(i've been told 2 degrees for every 50 horse), and how many steps colder i need to go on the spark plug heat range, etc. Thanks in advance.

driver Jul 7th, 04, 9:09 PM I ran a NGK-10 and I have used a CHAMPION RC12YC.
Setting timing you have right but I always taken out two more for safety.Im sure you know how to set your fuel pressure and how to read your plugs after making a pass?Getting the fuel pressure set right is a big one.
monteracer Jul 7th, 04, 9:22 PM i'm using the ngk-8 right now. so do you think i should go to a 10 also?
josh Jul 9th, 04, 12:16 AM Bill, are you from chicago or the 'burbs? I run the -10's with 300+ shot, right now I have -7 with a 82 jet and 32 deg. of timing. The -7 are a little hot but with it fat and other factors its ok.With my iron head 10-1 468 I ran a big shot with 28-30 deg. of timing and 6 psi fuel and R42 XLS plugs and it worked well, it wasn't a world beater with that tune but it was safe.I think the -8's are fine,if you want a safety margin go with the -9's,I think the 10s are a little too cold for what your doing.
monteracer Jul 9th, 04, 2:12 AM I am from chicago, I live on the south side, near 60th and pulaski. Oh, and by the way, thanks for the advise.
MCMIKE Jul 9th, 04, 10:40 PM A #10 plug is too cold, #9 would be just fine.When I had my 049 head 468 I used to use R43T up to 200 shot,then Autolite AR132 for 250-275 and NGK-9 for 300.
josh Jul 9th, 04, 11:14 PM Bill, south siieeeed! GO SOX! Have fun with the juice it's a gas. MC MIKE ,did you have a little article in a mag a while back with a picture of your car that ran 9.40's if so what are you running now if that was your old combo?
MCMIKE Jul 9th, 04, 11:32 PM That's the car.Fastest it went with the #049 head was 9.40 with stock suspension at #3800.No more stock suspension, but still full interior with front and back bench seats and same weight, went 8.60 last year and shooting for 40's this year
josh Jul 9th, 04, 11:48 PM mike, very nice. What track do you run at?
MCMIKE Jul 10th, 04, 12:01 AM Usually Union Grove.Went to RT66 once last year and got booted out for no chute.
josh Jul 10th, 04, 12:20 AM That's explains it.I only go to byron.I havent been to the grove in years.Take that thing to byron for the wheelstanding comp.get it on the back bumper for a few hundred feet and you could win $10,000.
MCMIKE Jul 10th, 04, 7:47 AM No thanks,I spectate that event every year. It's an awesome day at Byron, but it pretty much takes ruining your car to win.As in the Firebird that rolled or the Gremlin that hit the wall. They were #1 and #2 !
monteracer Jul 10th, 04, 3:50 PM MCMIKE, ive seen your car at the grove before. That thing is flyin! I'm friends with johhny kolb(black 70 mc)Thanks for the help
MCMIKE Jul 10th, 04, 10:36 PM Yea,saw John at the swap meet last weekend, was shocked when the Monte was for sale.Probably the nicest I've seen, very impressive pump gas car. They don't call him the detailer for nothing.Which car is yours?
monteracer Jul 11th, 04, 3:54 PM i've got a black 72 mc, not nearly as nice as johns. It needs some body work, but ill do that last. Have to have the cage put in it this winter. Best time so far is 11.35 on the motor(11.59 through the mufflers)
