I've searched this forum for a couple of years looking for an answer to my brake problem. It seems several members had the same problem of a good firm pedal that just required extra effort to stop the car, but no one ever came back and said they fixed it. I'm here to tell you that mine was fixed by replacing the vacuum booster,,,again. I tried every idea like checking the vacuum, bench bleeding the m/c, replacing the master cyl with a new one, pressure bleeding, vacuum bleeding, replacing flex hoses, 3 different proportioning valves, etc.
To make a real long story short, this is the 3rd booster I have had on this car, and the others all passed the pedal going down when engine starts test. I should explain the car I'm working on here is a 67 wagon with a front disc rear drum set up.
If you have brakes that seem like the booster is not helping enough, and the engine vacuum is good, put another NEW booster on it!:hurray:
