I am building a 505 cu inch BB for a 69 Drag race only Camaro. The motor may end up in my 67 Chevelle street car someday though.
I have a 454 +.100 4.25 Eagle crank 6.385 H-Beam rods 10.3 compression 049 oval port heads with 2.19 - 1.88 valves
with bowl blending and minor port work. Hooker 2" headers No exhaust so far. t400 rev manual VB with transbrake.
A BTE 8" 5000 stall converter. A Moser 9inch with 4.11 gears and a spool.Tires are Hoosier 28 x 9 slicks.

I do not have an intake single or dual plane or a carb ( but I have a line on a deal on a 1050 dominator )
I want to run in the 10's 10:50 - 10:90
I do not want to spin this motor over say 6500-6800.

My Chevelle has an M21 and 3:73 gears.

My engine builder has a 680 lift roller that he will make me a great deal on, but think it may be to big (spin to many rpms)

I need advise on a solid and a roller cam. Would love to go roller depending on cost otherwise solid.

Please keep in mind the 5000 stall in the Camaro drag car, but also keep in mind that it may end up in my cheveele
someday. Maybe a cam swap would be in order when it goes into the Chevelle.

Thanks Ryan

That is an awfull lot of convertor for a 505 with 049 heads. I think you might be defeating the purpose of the 049s.

Mike if 5000 stall is too much I would be interested in what size and stall you would recommend. I put the 8" BTE in because a friend had it with 7 passes on it for a good price ?
I figured it might be a little high but kind of depended on the cam.

By the way my engine builder has 76 Camaro with a 481 12.5 to 1 with 781 ovals run 10.50 consistently but he went thru the traps at 7200. He just stepped up to Dart Rectangles and picked up 2 tenths. So I figured I would be at the upper limit of the 049's.

Lunati 402A6, A7, A8 are in the range you're looking for.
