We are waiting for you to tell us how it fits!

Chris,

Quick question, the 454 that you run in the '70 - do you use a cast or forged crank? And did you have it balanced?

Chris,
Well I'm about 1/3 of the way done LOL

I cut off my pass side exhaust and cut/fit the Jegs 3" today with a DynoMax Ultra-Flo.
So far I would say they fit very nice.

Couple of notes so far,
The tailpipes need about a foot cut off if you are gonna tuck them up good at the rear.
I'm gonna hide them and have a turndown on the end.

Next,
The rear headpipe, that has a double 45*, and fits into the muffler. remember to do your trimming on the muffler end. That way the bends will be further to the rear and give more clearance where they go by the floorpan, driveshaft area.

The tailpipes seem to fit really good for there size.

Only complaint so far is that the hangers are poor, and not enough of them. To be expected IMO.
I'm going in the morning to get some different hangers and finish it up tomorrow in time to go drag racing I hope.

Chris,
It's done. Track results later smile.gif

Fit is EXCELLENT overall. Plenty to cut to fit.
Tailpipes fit great, overall this is the only way to go for a 3" exhaust IMO/
It is really probably a 10-12 hr job to fit, hang, etc..
I went and rented a chop saw today to make things easier.
I'm very happy with it.
The tailpipe bends that go over the axle are tight fitting, and you will have to trim them to bring them towards the ground to keep them off the trunkpan.
Fits very close to the fuel line...

I'm gonna go make some practice runs tonight and see what the car picked up.
Maybe do some tuning on it.
Ran a 8.33 last weekend before it broke a motor mount/fan shroud. felt like it was on an even better launch whne the mount let go. So I'm hoping for a 8.0 tonight with some practice, improved exhaust, and jetting the carb.

Chris,
I had Summit 2.5" mufflers on the last exhaust and loved the sound performance of them.
I ordered the 3" from Summit, not the welded ones just the $20 ones..
They are necked down internally to a 2.5", so are not a true 3" muffler. I would not go to the trouble of installing a 3" exhaust and use a necked down muffler.
I sent them back and ordered the Ultraflo's.

Ran a 8.14 @ 83.8 mph and 1.83 60' tonight with some tuning.
So I dropped ~.2 from last weekend.

Need to do more tuning...
but it is coming around.

Guys,
The best system by far out there (in my opinion)is the Pypes Performance Exhaust. The fit and quality of components is excellent!! I have installed the 3" on 67 Chevelle and the 2 1/2" on my 70 Chevelle. They have a true x-pipe and the mufflers sound awesome. I highly recommend this system.

Jeff,
have you installed the Jeg's exhaust or a Torque Tech, TA Performance, other systems?

I've heard that Pypes systems are great too.
I have installed the Flowmaster 2.5" complete kit,and helped install a TT 3" system on a 442
Both of them where excellent fitting and not time consuming either, with minimum trimming of the pipes.I'm still leaning toward the Jegs system,as I like the sound of a non X or H system the most.

I have installed a Jegs 2 1/2" system on my 69 Camaro and it was not a bad kit for the price though I will have to say that the hardware included was pretty cheap in quality. Not a bad system, but in my experience with these 3 systems, the pypes is far superior to the jegs. I have not installed a TA system or the Torque Tech though I've heard they are expensive. The pypes cost me $300 for the 2 1/2" and $350 for the 3" including mufflers and all hardware. (they actually gave me 10% off because I purchased 2 systems - which covered shipping). The jegs kit cost me close to $200 with tax and I had to buy some additional hardware(ie hangers/clamps).
I was just really impressed with the Pypes system at the quality of components and the fit and ease of installation. The tail pipes really tuck up under the car and around the axle like they should and there were no clearance problems of any kind. The hardware and hangers were complete and first quality.
I was very skeptical about the x-pipe and it toning down the sound of the engine and taking out the choppy sound or the cam. Actually to my suprise it made the car sound even badder. It made it sound awesome with even a more choppy rump. I installed the 2 1/2 on my 70 with a SB350 and it made it sound like I put a new motor in the car. I can really hear the cam and it runs so much better. The 3" system went on a 67 with a 502/502 and it sounds so wicked!! My next system will most definitly be the pypes.
Anyway that is just my .02
