: Next question - sandpaper progression

So what grits would you recommend as the progressoin for initial sanding. Also, what progression for block sanding. Please give me some idea what I should buy from the very first step up until getting ready to spray yhe first coat of color. I have a DA but need to get some baords for the block sanding. What sizes of boards would you recommend as well.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate all the answers I recieved on the post about buying that kit.

If the car is already in primer, this is what I do:

100 or 120 grit on first sanding, then reprime, and then sand with 180 or 220 grit and reprime again, finish it up with 400 for solid colors and no less than 500 grit for metallic colors, but I prefer 600 grit for metallics. seal and paint. Sometimes I will do one of the above mentioned steps twice, just to make sure she's flat.

Here's one I did that way. Sorry guy's not a Chevelle, but I do have 65 Malibu Wagon project that will get posted once started. Anyway here is the pix:

You get a nice flat finish and it's worth doing right. Let us know how your doing as you progress.
