I know, horrible picture. I'm at work and am blocked to most imaging sites. Checking out a 454 and want to make sure it's a 454 standard height. I am awaiting casting numbers. A bit greasy for the owner....can't see them too well:)

Unless it's been rebuilt that way, only 427's were tall deck and these were in trucks. There should be about 1/2" between the top of the water pump to the deck of the block to be a tall deck.

Thanks for the reply. The truck is a 73' with a 454. Just want to make sure that I don't waste 400mi and a day to find out the block is something else.

You could get the 366 and 427 in tall deck production engines in heavy duty trucks only I think. ( Grain trucks and such ) 454 came tall deck in a few marine applications I think and of course bowtie blocks. I think I remember reading Mercruiser using some 454 tall decks in marine applications only. I could be wrong. Not positive.

Casting # is 39999289. Std. height 454.

I'm torn...this is a 73' 3/4 ton truck w/454 & 400 trans. Rough, but I want a truck and a BB, what's a guy to do?
