Tryed to start the wifes 97 Vortec Tahoe this morning and no go.Did this once before,rainy and damp here this morning,the other time it did this it was rainy too.Could smell gas like it was flooded but would'nt fire,just a little cough every now and them.I,m positive it's ignition related but I'm an old points and diesel guy and I don't know what to check here.Car has 110k on it. i have seen this many times. if it was running great when you shut it off and then won't fire next time, it's likely the module in the distributor. they can fail without warning or prior symptoms. pull a plug wire and check for current while while cranking the engine. i stick a used plug in the wire and lay on the engine where i can see it while reaching thru the window to crank. also check the connector going into the distributor cap. i have seen them come loose and not make contact.

97 Tahoe should still have a dist. Check the cap and rotor for corrosion/moisture.

at 110,000 it is overdue for a tune-up, git er done. Most likely not the module.

we had something similar, actually ended up being the fuel pump. with yours flooding i would check the module / cap / rotor / wires.

The first simple thing it to check for spark in general.

Yep, and don't forget the plugs too and fuel filter.

module is on the top of the right intake.

Went out this morning and tried it and still wouldn't fire.Put in new rotor,cap, and wires and it started right up.:hurray:Now I just have to wait for the next rainy day to make sure it's fixed for good.Thanks for all the help,guys.P.S.,put plugs in about 20k ago.
