I bought the 358 modified circle track motor. It's got Dart Iron eagle heads, JE pistons, Eagle 4340 3.48 crank, 6" H beam Rods, Solid Flat tappet lifter style, (unaware of cam specs so far), Victor Jr. Intake... lots of other goodies. Makes 13:1 compression and over 550 hp. Fresh motor, Ran 2 races, never spun over 7000 RPM, and then rebuilt and checked over. Along with it came Autometer 5" Tach, and autometer oil pressure, water temp, fuel pressure, and another gauge of which I forget the application. Also came with a fuel cell, Steel braided line, fuel pump, and aluminum Radiator.

All this for ....... 3,000 dollars.
Hooked up? Damn straight!
I've known the guy for a little while. I plan on leaving it for one summer, running race gas through the fuel cell, then next winter swapping heads and cam. To lower the compression to about 11:1.

I've got a 3000 convertor, TH350, and 4.11 gears. Hope this was the right choice, I can see 11 second passes in my future *crosses fingers*

Thanks,
Joe Phillips

That does sound like a very good deal. What are you putting it in?

This motor will be going in my 3300 lbs. chevelle. Mostly a street car, but around here we like our "street" cars a little more spicy then the to most places i've been. It will be raced though.

It will be my weekend warrior.

Thanks,
Joe Phillips

I was curious too. I'm in Lafayette.

Sweet deal, Joe. I'd think about a piston/cam swap myself, to get compression down, and keep the heads. IMO, a bit cheaper than a head swap, considering the cost of a comparable head, especially if they've been worked over. Again, that's just me.

JP-15,
Sounds pretty sweet. Where do you run at?

I'm actually pretty close to a few of you. I'm from LaPorte and going to school in West Lafayette.

Cool Andreas, we'll have to hang out sometime this summer. We usually have a pretty good sized gathering on Saturday nights. Here is our site Lafayette Motorsports (http://www.lafayettemotorsports.com/index.cfm)

With over 550 horses, you better dang sure be in the 11's. Heck, depending on how much over 550 horses, and the right drivetrain, there is potential for 10's based on the horsepower. It probably take a 4300 converter or so leaving on a T brake, great drag suspension, and deeper gears, but its doable with over 550 horses. Right now, you oughta be about mid 11's or possibly a little better with your current drivetrain and good traction. Also, I wouldnt mind if youd do some more shopping and see if you can find me any deals like that. Hehe.

The list gets longer, turns out that Dave (the guy I bought the motor and accesories from) found a few other tid bits that he decided to GIVE me. For example, a TCI built TH350 I think he said it was a "street fighter" transmission.(no convertor though.) an HEI ignition, and a few other small things.

For now the motor will stay how it is. Next winter I'll throw a new set of 11:1 pistons in it, a new cam and rebalance it all.

Maybe I'll get lucky and the price of race gas will drop =-). Nah I think that would be asking for too much. My luck's gotta run out sometime. And I would say after this deal, I'll be depleted for a while.

As for you Indiana guys. I am close! Westville, Chesterton, Valporaiso, and Portage are my stomping grounds. Feel free to come help with the car any time you would like.
(Terrible, how are you liking Purdue?)

FYI, I usually run at US41 (Morocco), and Joliet. Hope to see you guys out there!

Thanks,
Joe Phillips

I run at Morocco also. I'll keep an eye out for you this summer.

You'd better not run it at the track before you swap the cam/pistons. If you do, and can get this car into the mid 11's you'll NEVER be satisfied with the lowered performance.

Unless you spray it with a 150+ shot of dope ;)
