I'll post this here instead of paint & body and see if I get a response. I'm re-doing the chrome on my wife's '65 Elky and need to remove the bed rail trim without screwing up the paint. Is there a tool, or a trick to this?

hey i've ran into that situation before you might want to lay some tape along the rail s both side and a good quality tape blue or green 3 m works fine because of adhesive is not that strong and easy to remove and protects the paint .the corner bed trim by the tailgate you will have to remove hidden nuts and the way you remove those is the access panel on inside of the bed just below the corner trim .now the front trim is interlocked witn those clips and that hidden screw

Thanks, I'll take a look in there. I just wondered if there were any special tools required along the way.

no not really un less you loosen rails and slide them carefully or wedge some wood mixing sticks a little section along sides thats why i mentioned the tape it protects the paint and in turn if youwedge small mixing sticks and use a thin gauge peice of metal between rails and mixing sticks and you pry a section at a time take your time it will pry up and don't rush or you can go to auto body supply store and get these small plastic wedges they use to remove trim piece or wedge between windows i hope i didn' over whelm you with info but when your working on a vehicle that's painted you have to be very careful trust me especially when it's your own

get door shims at Home Depot. 99 cents for a bundle of about 2 dozen. Soft Pine.

If you will take your hand and push the bed rail toward the inside of the bed it will release the clip from the backside of the bed rail and you can remove them that way as well. Do the same thing to put them back on.

Okay, similar procedure for the trim as it goes around the rear window? I haven't dug into it yet, but thought I would ask here BEFORE I screwed something up.

NO, the trim around the cab has studs that you have to go inside the car to remove the nuts off the studs.

Hopefully I would have figured that one out before I broke anything. Thanks again.

The only drag about removing the pot metal trim around the window is that you have to pull the headliner down partway to access the nuts.
