I made a 1:1 Q-jet a few years ago. Talk about throttle response....

It's about the quickest way to put your gas mileage in the toilet and gain absolutely nothing. If you have the right spring in the vacuum diaphragm of the secondaries, they will open as required without bog. Back off the air valve spring on a Quadrajet and you get the same thing. Quadrabog. A lot of engineering went into these carbs and everything is there for a reason. I've been there and done this stuff many, many years ago. A lot of other old guys here have done it too.

My friends use them in dirt track so I tried it on my combo but loaded up on the line with a footbrake.

I have a 1:1 Dominator, and I believe that Bill (aka "Bill's Camino") has that too on a Barry Grant Dominator. I think that I remember him saying that he likes it. I will be firing up my engine soon though. But my verdict really won't be in on that until early next year. Sorry.

For street operation I disconnected the secondary linkage and fuel mileage remained in the 18 mpg range. The Q-jet operates the same whether or not you open the secondaries progressively or 1:1. You won't get any bog if you have the air valve adjusted correctly and the secondary accelerator circuit tuned up. You can have the engine idling on the primaries and blip the secondaries and the throttle response is very clean and crisp.
