A good set of heads, a good cam and a 750 carb. should easily get you into the 400hp range.
I'm only running about 9:1 comp on my 439ci. It's got stock 049 heads, a fairly healthy cam, Holley single plane intake and 850DP carb. I'm pushing about 475hp

wut heads u think i should get or would heads would get me up to that hp. and for the comp wut would i have to do just get higher comp pistons, would that work with the same heads, and r my heads any good, this is a shtty year 396.

two choices
buy earlier closed chamber heads to bump up the compression if it is a running engine or
if it needs rebuilding, order domed pistons. The big problem is the very small factory cam in the 396 engines and later 402s. Add some compression like I mentioned and install a modern performance cam, and you'll have a lotta fun.....mid 13s to high 12s no issue and quicker if you can afford to lean on it harder....and spend more on the drivetrain components.
