I received a parts breakdown, from my engine builder. He stated he installed Speed-Pro l2300f pistons in my engine. He assured me I would have a 9:6.1 compression ratio. I am using 049 heads, that have been milled slightly. I looked up these pistons, and they are for a 427. Does he know something I don't? Thanks in advance.

I dont have a catalog here at home, but I was thinking the 2300F are for a 427.??

Of course a 427 and 454 have the same bore size, so they could be used in your block with the 3.750 396/427 stroke crank. If you used the 2300's(if they are for a 427) with 4.0 inch stroke crank the pistons would stick out of the top of the block about an eighth of an inch.

Is the engine assembled? maybe he just wrote down the wrong part # on your invoice. But you will need to know, because a 427 engine will use a different flex plate and balancer than a 454.

they are 427 pistons for sure, i run them in a 454 block with a 427 crank 3.76 stroke. around 9.7-10.0 compression. you cannot use them with a 454 crank. hope this helps. Dan

Jeff,
Just looked in the catalog to be certain .... they ARE 427 pistons. If that's what he has in the engine with a 454 crank ( 4" stroke) .. they should be sticking out of the block about 1/8" at tdc. I would pull the oil pan and see what the casting number is on the crank. Are you sure he did not build you a 427 ??

I talked to my engine builder, today. It is in fact a 427. I had my father pick up a rebuildable big block while I was on deployment. He just decoded the block, and told me it was a 454. Turns out it had a standard forged 3.76 crank in it, and standard bore pistons in it. I don't mind giving up 30 or 40 ft. lbs. in torque, for a few more hundred rpm. I guess I need to change my signature, now. Thanks for your help.
