Can anyone tell me proper endplay for distributer with bronze gear in BB with solid roller ... right now a tight .014 have been told this too tight ???

Also anyone ever hear about drilling a .040 hole in base of distributer just above gear to shoot oil on gear to reduce wear ??

.014 is not to tight. End play is zero when the engine is running as the ger is forced against the thrust bearing or bushing.

Yes, the hole wants to be on the cam side so it "sprays" at the cam/dist gear junction.

i cant tell you about the end play number for i have not had the chance to worry about it. i just know that it should have some movement so not to bind stuff up.......

but i can tell you about the racers trick to oil the gear on the dist. to help it live longer and this can be done for any chevy sbc bbc engine.........on the last machining area right above the gear on the dist. housing, take a fine file and file a groove about .020" deep at about the 3 o'clock position as the dist. would sit in normal timed postion in the block.....the two machining areas on the dist. housing are used to seal off the oil gallary and this cavity between the two machined surfaces is pressured with oil when the engine is on off course.......so by filing a groove on the last (bottom) machined area this will provide oil to the cam and dist. gear to help reduce wear.......i do this to all sbc and bbc engines i build......

It didn't run real well on pump gas so the guy went out & bought an HE 268 Comp & a Air Gap intake to "fix" it :D

Yes, I did break it in on the dyno this summer, but had to leave before got to make some power pulls etcetc. work crisis!!! and never found the time to get it back ,so took week off and going back tommorrow to sort out carbs , spacers , and collectors ....and my homemade electric vacuum pump " street pan evac"

Iam a year behind getting this car completed just way too much stuff going at work this past year ....I should just retire so I can complete this car graemlins/thumbsup.gif

ddennis ....sounds even easier than drilling hole .I understand the concept Thanks

CDN SS, that puppy ought to bark! Gonna have my ill-fated 439 going together in Lockport while I'm on vacation. Decided to put the rev kit back in in case a lifter pops out. Still gonna use the comp roller lifters, as I won't put many miles on her. I'll try to get some times on the car, and then I can nail a new cam spec, including pressurized lifters. I shouldn't be so tight, but them redzones are expensive! Can you post your pan evac as a drawing or picture? Sounds very interesting.
