Why liquid filled guages?

Makes the gauge needle a little more stable and keeps it from bouncing around so much.

The resistance of the fluid on the needle keeps it steady. Both from external vibration and pulses from the source. The needle won't 'flutter' as much.

Those little liquid filled guages people install on the carb line, are notorious for bad readings on a warm engine. I'd think carefully about using one there....

I've never had good luck with them. Finally went with an electic gage with a sending unit in the engine compartment, and gage in the cockpit.

Liquid filled gauges are designed to work with things that have alot of pulsing, like the fuel pump on my Big Cam Cummins. A non-liquid filled gauge would have it's internals beaten to death in a short time in that application.

I have liquid filled gauges on my Sanger Flatbottom boat. They work great in that appication. Not sure if the extra $$'s on the gauges would be warranted on a street vehicle. I'd rather use a good set of electric gauges.
