Hello,

I have a Mallory Unilite mechanical advance also. It is setup to provide 20 degrees of advance.

At idle (1000 RPM) my timing is at 12 degrees or so. When rev'ed up.... by 2500 RPM....the timing advances another 20 degrees to 32 degrees total.

I like using an adjustable Craftsman timing light. By adjustable I mean it has a dial on it to set to any degree you want and align your mark to ZERO on the timing tab on the engine. Let's say you set the light to 30 degrees.......when you point it at engine you align your timing mark to ZERO.....resulting in 30 degrees of timing.

This assumes your balancer and timing marks are in the original correct position (and have not rotated into an incorrect position over the years).

Good luck, Joe
