: Help me fast
68L30 Nov 15th, 07, 3:44 AM Im currently looking at a 69 SS chevelle, the gauge pack does not have a tach or full gauges just idiot lights. It does have dual fuel lines from the front to the back of the vehicle. The Auto console seems kinda of jimmy rigged in over the years with many holes in the floor. Any tell tale signs???? Im at the place right now. Thanks

look for the following items.
1. correct front grille, fenders, parking lights and hood.
2. power front disk brakes
3. bolted rag joint
4. placement of ss and 396 emblems
5. check paint code for the yellow or orange( ss only)
6. if the sheet metal appears to be original check for the screw holes for the wheel opening trim
7. if factory tach look for proper redline.
8. look for 3/8" fuel line
9. if automatic look for switch over the gas pedal for kickdown for t-400 trans
10. look for all interior ss trim.
11. 12 bolt rear with support braces.
12. look for original glove box sticker for the tire size decal.
13. if the rear quarters look to have never been replaced look for where the malibu emblems would have had to have the holes filled.
14. pull the door opening vents and shine a flashlight down on the rocker panel. if the car originally had the rocker trim you should be able to see the holes.
while there is no concrete evidence with out paperwork, you can be reasonably certain that the car was on original ss. good luck mike

From what you suplied all I can tell you it is a Black Bucket Seats,(ie) 756, Hugger Orange (ie) Paint Code 72. Hugger Orange was Only available on a 69 Chevelle if it was an SS. So what you might have is 69 SS Chevelle Hugger Orange with Black Bucket Seat Interior. 136379K377857 is a V8 Malibu 2 Door Hardtop Built in Kansas City,(Leeds,MO Plant) in FEB or March. Should be a 02 or 03 followed by a letter,A,B,C,D or E. Should also have a L on the Trim Tag. Hope I helped.

Dean Nov 15th, 07, 9:15 AM What is your question - SS or not?
Gauges, console, bucket seats, fuel lines have nothing to do with it since they're an option on SS AND non SS cars

Twins Fan Nov 15th, 07, 3:28 PM 68L30, what were you doing at the car dealer in the middle of the night, unless it's a private party sale?
68L30 Nov 15th, 07, 6:05 PM Private party sale. I bought the car. It had no trim holes for any malibu trim or emblems( I sanded areas that could have been filled). Just SS holes and the hood and all body panels were original. No build sheet behind rear seat. Black rear panel behind trunk. Cowl tag called for bucket seats in black and thats what it has.Defnitly original.LOL. I could tell the guages had been changed at some point in its life the portion where the idiot lights are was just hanging. Extra wires for what looked like actual gauge wiring. 3/8 fuel line. 12 bolt original. Not sure on gears though. I took the risk and bought it. Lots of money in the motor so well see. It will be a good driver for the girlfriend. Im 98% positive its an SS.
furball8994 Nov 15th, 07, 6:29 PM Congrats on the "new" 69. Lest see some pix!!!
mad hooker Nov 15th, 07, 8:01 PM awesome! you bought it for your girlfriend!!!!??? wow! thats awesome lets see it!
68L30 Nov 16th, 07, 2:53 AM Ill get some pics in the next couple days. When he dropped it off he gave me the original ss wheel, ss dash emlems, and some paperwork from a long time ago showing it was always an ss. We got a great deal.
