Did you happen to go to George Rays today? I know 3-4 of the Springfield,Mo. boys were going to make the trek down there today. A white 57 with flames, blue and black Vega, first gen black Camaro with silver stripes, and a white G body Malibu...all street cars and all pretty quick.

WOW...my name in print! I've hit the big time now. :D
No, Robert I didn't make it out there. I've literally been working 7 days a week. Today was day 22 in a row and counting. graemlins/sad.gif I think I'm in for at least 3 more weeks of it and that's as far as the schedule shows.
I checked the GR's website earlier and they mentioned a nice '57 newcomer on there. There may be some pics up by now.
Go to www.memphian.com/georgerays/ (http://www.memphian.com/georgerays/)
On the message board there should be a thread regarding yesterday's race results. Inside there is a link with pics I believe.
Anyway, I hope your friends had a great time and please tell me if you plan to come down one Sunday. I'd make an extra effort to be off work and be honored to play pit crew.

I talked to one of the guys that went to GR's dragstrip,,,said it was crazy,,,Mustang went over on its top at the end and they werent wearing seatbelts or helmets,a guy and his wife/girlfriend were in the car. Said a Dodge of some kind went down track and a big piece of concrete came up and they continued racing, just avoiding the hole. A couple cars/trucks launched and made immediate left or right turns and people are standing real close to the track. I'm not sure that I would even want to race down there  He said some of the lights were missing on the tree,,,real dusty and dirty,,,sounds like a place that I might go as a spectator, but never a racer graemlins/thumbsup.gif

BAH! You're too picky ya hoser. tongue.gif I've only seen 2 wrecks the whole time I've been going and they were both due to something on the car breaking. Not the track.
As far as the guy that wrecked this past weekend...I can only tell you this. A friend of mine was watching and said that the guy kept his foot in it even after the car got squirrely after the launch...and he went ahead and sprayed it to boot. Purely a driver's error situation. That's just what I was told, but I don't doubt it a bit. Not representative of the class of racers that attend GR's. Stuff like that happens everywhere from time to time.
NOW, the circumstances in which it occurred WAS how things had been done at GR's. As in, passengers were allowed for "fun rides" prior to time trials.
From now on there will be NO passengers allowed in the vehicle and I'll bet that a few cars will get checked over.
I'd really like to have you come down one weekend. I've never heard anyone say it wasn't the most fun day of racing they've ever had. We get people from all over who come to "The Track that Time Forgot". I would hope all of you guys would give it a chance someday. smile.gif
