Pat,

Is it legal to run a CO2 solenoid to do the shifting on the summit racing cars if I do it manually with a button on the steering wheel. I know its not legal with a timer or a RPM activated switch, but I was thinking that maybe a button would be okay.

Also I was thinking about the MSD 2 step retard. It has 10° of retard to start to car, and then an pill you can plug in to retard the timing on the high end, that way I can run 42° on the start and then 36-38° at the high end of the track. If it is legal, can I have a rpm activated switch to kick in the advance, or does that need to be a manually operated switch or button. What are your thoughts.

Thanks

Hey Mike,

AFAIK, every thing you mentioned is legal. Delay boxes and down track rpm controllers are not. I'm pretty sure a rpm activated shifter is ok (I haven't checked the rule book). 2 steps and high rpm retards are OK. My buddy Dave, blue 80 Olds, has one. It is rpm controllers like throttle stops that are illegal.

cool...I was thinking of having my shifting done with a button, as I think it is faster than shifting it by hand and I can be more consistant

What CO2 shifter are you thinking of using? Three speed ones seem pretty rare. Most are for the PG.

I have seen a lot of electric solenoids, but hardly any CO2 for a 3-speed rachet shifter. I finally found one. I emailed this company CO2 and Electric Solenoid Shifter (http://www.contenderperformance.com/shifnoid.htm) and they have one...the whole setup is $289 including everything needed. I am running the B&M Pro Ratchet shifter. It also allows for manual operation as well, which in my opinion is good.

I know Dave, I raced him 3rd round, he red lite. He is pretty tough. I ended going out against Danny with the silver remac camaro. My car started going sideways in the water box, and I couldn't get the tires hot enough, and ended up running .13 off my dial. He ran 7.078 on a 7.07 dial and he was .02 quicker on the tree, so I wouldn't have been able to catch him anyway, unless I was able to push him to break out, but its all yesterdays news. I have to get ready for April 25. BTW...are you going to Super Chevy in Pomona which is set for April 29 - May 2. It is going to be huge. And no pre-registration either. Also no limit on drag entries.

Any advantage to CO2 over electric? I've though about one.

I've been getting sideways in the water box, too. Can't seem to get the tires hot either. I'm hoping to go to the SCS. It'll be nice to run the quarter again. I hope it's not too much of a mad house.

I don't know, but I would rather put faith into the CO2 as everything else on the car is electric.
