Has anybody run a powertrax locker unit(Richmond gear) and if so how did it perform ? looking to upgrade my son's 87 IROC after now getting engine dialed in. Thanks Rob...

Just put one into a friends 69 SS 396..12 bolt open rear w/3.07 gears..works mint, and he went to the track with it too. This $199 unit from Jegs

I have been using one for several years now with no problems. I have an 8.2 10 bolt. You do hear some clicking as you go around corners and the occasional clunk as the dog clutchs work. I think this unit is a good option for converting an open rear.

I believe Tom-MC71454 has been using the powertrax also in his 540 powered Monte.

10 bolt as soon as i get a few hours of free time
I am glad to hear that they perform well
I was afraid to read this post for fear of hearing it was junk or something, but it sounds positive

Chris,
Yes it's an 8.2 with Precision gear 3.73's I installed myself. Can you believe it's still in one piece? They will take more abuse than they are given credit for.

Yes I do, it has been through 5 seasons of street miles and 400+ 1/4 mile passes.

If it's a stock 7.5" rear in that Camaro, you can't lose with a SLP takeout Zexel Torsen Posi (http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?PARTNUMBER=64501T) from SLP 99 bucks and it's brand new, well a couple of miles from moving the car from the factory to SLP for upgrades. I'm running one in my 88, and it works great. You'll need 3.23 gears or better, and 28 spline axles. I got a pair of axles from the junkyard for 5 bucks each. Most 89-92 camaros have 28 spline. Just make sure you don't have a 9 bolt in that IROC. If you do, the 10 bolt Camaro rears are a dime a dozen.

I saw them put one of those in a 67? Chevelle (didnt get a chance to actually really see the car)on that HPTV marathon the other day, and was intrigued to say the least. I was thinking that maybe they arent so hot for street use- but evidently not. $199 for that thing at Jegs seems like a rocking deal, thanks for posting that link! Doesnt seem all that hard to install either, provided everything lines up OK.

Been using mine for over 2 years now..it makes some noise once in awhile, but nothing worth mentioning.I'd use one again..wouldn't even think twice about it.

Does does this allow the wheel to be free around a corner? Or is like a mini spool?
