: Honest opinions on these 295 street radials
72 468/400chevelle Nov 13th, 07, 9:35 PM I've about decided after my last couple of trips to the dragstrip that my car might be overgeared (4.10). Rather than backing up to a 3.73, I decided to try going from the 275/60/15 street radials to a 295/65/15. I haven't been to the track yet, but they certainly geared it taller which I like. These tires are 30" tall and my son thinks maybe they look TOO big. Give me some candid opinions on the looks if I'm smart enough to post these pics.

modchevelle Nov 13th, 07, 9:57 PM They look great !!!!!!! if you were to put your old tires back on they would look to small lol
Brettd85 Nov 13th, 07, 10:57 PM I think they look really good, however, the car looks a little tall. I would keep them if you could lower the car an inch all around, maybe 1.5" front. Sure does look tough!
sarge065 Nov 13th, 07, 11:04 PM I think Brett's on the money...looks great just a bit to tall, maybe lowered just an inch.
JodysTransmissions Nov 14th, 07, 12:06 AM Here is some tire math........
275/60/15 = 27.99" (dia.)
295/65/15 = 30.10" (dia.)
27.99/30.10 = 0.9299003
4.10 x 0.9299003 = 3.81:1
You now have the effective final drive ratio of a 3.81:1 using the 295/65 verses the 275/60 tires.
I like the fatter look of the 295's.
I hope this helps.

I agree with your son, I think there should be more room between the rocker and tire. But what do kids know?? The car looks killer. I wish I had a vehicle that ran 11s!!!
Motorhead62 Nov 14th, 07, 1:31 AM I like the bigger tires!
Nice chevelle! :D
Taller tires hook better because of a bigger foot print!
Chief fat nutz Nov 14th, 07, 3:11 AM Great tire, its my extra set of tires I run too! 295's are killer looking and have a great big ass sidewall:yes:
72 468/400chevelle Nov 14th, 07, 8:11 AM Thanks for the comments guys. I'm not sure if I could lower it on all 4 corners and still drive it like I want to. I actually thought it looked better with the 8" wheels I first mounted just to make sure the tires would clear, but M/T says they will plant better with 10" so thats what I ended up with.
Jody, I came up with that 3.81 ratio as well. My speedometer is not hooked up, but if I did my math correct, at 3000RPM, I should now be running 65.82MPH compared to 61.32 with the shorter 28" tire. I know it's going to roll better. I just want to see what kind of 60' they will give me. Thanks again.

71 chevy Nov 14th, 07, 10:29 AM i dont think the car should be dropped at all. looks mean as is.
GRN69CHV Nov 14th, 07, 4:53 PM 3000 at 65 is right around where I run with 28" tires and 3.73's. At first it seemed a little stiff, but then once I got used to to the fact that this is not a modern car with and OD tranny, it's not really that bad. Key is to stay in the right hand lane, run 65 and enjoy the ride.
Leave as is, they look great!
Bowtie-72 Nov 15th, 07, 11:51 AM I like it, tires, color, stance, everything (wheels are so-so, but if you like them, great).
I want to run that size, but I have to trim the 1/4 lip with my rims, haven't done that yet.
350thunder Nov 15th, 07, 7:48 PM Tire size could not be better. Absolutely love it!! I am in the process of getting rims and tires for the back of my 68 and would love to run that exact same tire. I am wanting 1'' or a little lower than yours sits in the rear. If you were to lower yours 2 more inches, would it work. Have you trimmed the fender lip.
Great looking car man!!
Chris Stanwyck Nov 15th, 07, 8:08 PM I have been runnin them (295's) for 2 years (275's) before that. Luv em and won't ever change. Big improvements on my 60's in 06 with a nitroused 468.
Thought they looked big at first too but they really grew on me. Nice tight fit.
The new Hoosier 295/65 looks really exciting to me.

Chris, what gear do you have under your car? With these 30" tires, I'm concerned about not turning enough RPMs at the traps. That is certainly a good looking 69 you have.
Andy, I don't think I could lower mine 2". Even with the lips rolled, it's fairly tight. If only Weld would offer this wheel in a 6" BS. These are 5.5 BS and I could stand another 1/2" to the inside, but they go from 5.5 to 6.5. Mounting them on 8" wheels drops the section width to 12" compared to 13" on these 10" wheels and that would help a ton, but I'm after the best 60' I can get right now.

I run 411's and that probaby is about a 390 with the 295's.
I am hitting the traps at 130Mph so it kinda helped me.
Your car looks incredible. My taste buds exactly. We look for the same things in our Chevelles for sure.
Chevelle 6-71 Nov 16th, 07, 8:55 AM Looks good! Big fat tires = Muscle Cars......
