I'm replacing my plug wires and want to reroute the wires properly--previous owner did a hack job and I have burnt wires. I can't seem to find any info in my manuals about the best way to route the wires. Currently, for most cylinders, the wires come up to the plugs from underneath; that seems wrong. I like the looms that carry each wire parallel along the valve covers and lead down to the plug from above. Is that a good way to go? How do those kind of looms mount--will I have to drill into my valve covers? Finally, do you suggest addition looms to hold the wires up and apart near the distributor?

This is kind of a bland topic, but I appreciate any advice you have. It's a 350 in a 72 C-10 (sorry non-Chevelle this time.)

The looms use the same bolts as the valve cover holddown. You may have to get longer bolts. I know people will disagree, but if you use GOOD quality plug wires you shouldn't have any trouble, assuming you are using a near stock ignition system.

About the wires, rick is right. Buy good wires and you will never have a problem with wires too close to each other.

I used Taylor wires and looms and they are terrific... I can't sing the praises better. The looms go through the valve cover bolts and fit up really well. Grab a catalogue at your local speed shop and look at all the options. Whatever you can imagine is available. Even GM has some really trick looms that look really "spiffy".

GM Performance Parts makes some that may be exactly what you want. I had 'em on my 77 Chevy pickup. They look chrome, but they're actually polished aircaft aluminum with a Chevy bowtie stuck in the middle (should be available at your local speed shop). They look awesome and organize they wires very well. Not to mention, they also compliment the engine compartment very nicely. Of course, I don't know if you're chroming up the engine or what. If not, just a cheaper set of Daytona (for example) looms would be OK. They'll all bolt up with your current valve cover bolts.
