: what kind of rings for nitrous?
darkostoj Nov 12th, 07, 11:21 AM I am going to be running nitrous on my 355 and I was wondering what type of rings I should be running? I dont want to spend a fortune, but I do want to make sure I get a good ring seal. I am going to be spraying 150, maybe more if the motor can handle it, and i'm at 10:1 compression
trmnatr Nov 12th, 07, 11:44 AM I like Childs and Albert rings. They are a bit expensive but i think speed pro should get the job done. Use file fit rings as these high end C&A and speed pro rings are file fit.
If your engine is .030" overbore your rings will be .035" oversized

what type of rings though? i know there are different kinds like cast, moly, plasma moly, etc. what about the ring gaps?
trmnatr Nov 12th, 07, 11:49 AM All of the C&A rings are moly, they call them DURA-MOLY FILE FIT and the SPEED-PRO rings that are file fit are moly
Either one will do you,i just prefer Childs&Albert rings. They do cost about $145.00, Scoggin-Dickey sells them or used to,no street/strip guys buy them due to cost. Thats why summit/jegs dont sell them anymore i would say
cstraub Nov 12th, 07, 12:07 PM Hellfire's by SpeedPro. They were specifically engineered for extreme engine use. They run about $150 a set.

they dont have them in my size. I have TRW L2256 pistons and the ring thicknesses are 5/64 - 5/64 - 3/16
trmnatr Nov 12th, 07, 12:16 PM Childs and Albert
It will cost about $150
M.Maner Nov 12th, 07, 12:26 PM Darco call the ring manufacturer's for accurate information. Moly faced is not the best choice for a Nitrous motor and not all C&A rings are Moly faced.

trmnatr Nov 12th, 07, 12:28 PM All the childs and albert dura-moly rings are moly faced,we were talking about dura moly c&A rings

where can I find them online? I usually shop through summit and they don't have them
trmnatr Nov 12th, 07, 12:32 PM Childs and albert online or scoggin dickey. I agree with mike, call c&a because alot of places give the wront part number because they made a mistake,it happens all the time.
Speed pro is good but C&A last longer, but they are higher priced
jetblue69 Nov 12th, 07, 1:27 PM Surprised no one mentioned mahle rings. I guess it all goes on preference here. Good rings will eat a $100 bill minimum. I think the Childs & Albert rings are quite a bit overkill for you. But using rings for nitrous it's not exactly what brand rings you buy it's how you file the end gaps on them to fit the cylinders.
69 Ratt Vette Nov 12th, 07, 2:54 PM No reason to run special rings or ring gap for 150-200 shot......waste of money. If you want to be extra safe set the top ring gap at .0055 x bore diameter.
Harold Sutton Nov 12th, 07, 2:57 PM Hellfire's by SpeedPro. They were specifically engineered for extreme engine use. They run about $150 a set. X2. I think at "150 HP" or "200 HP" you could get by with not much out of the ordinary but as the nitrous increases so should the end gaps. Skinny, low drag, rings and a vacuum pump should be the order of business if you plan a 350 HP hit or more.
