: world motown intake showed up -first look
sheetmetal Jul 2nd, 04, 8:49 PM im going to try a few different intakes and purchased a motown S/B intake. was actually looking for a smaller singe plane. appears to be a knock-off of a super victor. only 2 minor differences that i can see. theres a dogbone in the bottom of the motown and the port entry on the motown has a better radious. apart from that there the same. not sure its worth the effort to try. may send it back. im looking for one that is already plumbed for the 4 corner cooling. maybe dart or brodex has a smaller singleplane with 4 corner cooling. Dave
Ron454 Jul 2nd, 04, 9:05 PM I too just recieved an intake from World. Big Block though.
Not sure what to think, it's shorter than the Dart. Probably closer to a Victor JR.
And they left metal shavings in it....
Other than that it looks fine. Wish I could have afforded a few different ones, but not in the budget.
You might take a pair of simple dividers and see if the cross sectional areas are the same as the Edel manifold. Might reveal something.....

Happy 4th weekend

Dave That dogbone and extra material in there creates less plenum area.
These changes are supposed to make better low and midrange torque and HP than the Super.
Just stating what some engine builders have said.
Can you tell me for sure what size of Fel-Pro intake gasket will fit it?
I can send you a 1205 for a test fit if you don't have a set to try.
In other words I am interested in this intake but I don't want it if it is bigger than a 1205
I know that a Victor Jr fits this gasket and possibly one Team G.
I'm just looking for other options.
Ron454 Jul 2nd, 04, 10:39 PM Actually, looked at my rat intake a little closer.
The carb opening is actually smaller than the gasket. Ditto with a spacer. And it's not centered! Left to right is off by .100".
I need to get the carb home and see if the manifold underhangs the carb bores. If it does, it's going back. I'm not going to start grinding on a new $300 manifold.
I should have stuck with what I know.....

pdq67 Jul 2nd, 04, 11:27 PM FWIW, an article years ago called, "The Last Lash" tested several intakes and specifically a Holley Strip Dom. against a Dart!!
The results were that the Strip Dom. hung with the Dart until all but at the very top on an old RHS Company "Saturday Night Special" fresh 468 motor!!
And it is shorter than the Dart for better hood clearance AND quite a bit cheaper!!
I think they used the same 1" spacer on all the intakes and off-hand, I don't recall if it was an open or four hole spacer or what??
The article helped me pick the Strip Dom. for my 496 motor for if/when the dreaded, "more power, Scottie" bug bites...

mikehartwell Jul 2nd, 04, 11:30 PM Welcome to the world of "World Products". As much as they try to hide it, it's bm now, not world anymore. Making the transition from selling parts to making and assembling them is not as easy as they thought; even with all those years of "hardcore" volkswagon racing experience....

pdq67 I thought it was called "The Lasht Word".
I saw that article myself. It was on a 454 and as I remember the Stock Strip Dominator was a little better on the low end for a few rpm then the Dart took over. The Dart wooped up on it from there on.
When Lingenfelter worked it over adding an open spacer with port and plenum work it worked a whole lot better. It matched the Dart's bottom end and mid's, but the top end of the Dart wooped up on it again.
The Dart still out-did it.
As for price...
Imagine what having a person such as Lingenfelter work over a manifold would cost.
On the other hand the Dart was only $350.00 in stock form.

PLEASE DO!!!
I am verry interested in how big those stock port openings are!
travis g Jul 3rd, 04, 1:41 AM Thrasher, if you are looking for a single plane intake that matches a 1205 fel pro, I know a weiand 7530 is a perfect match. The 1205 is not a perfect match for a 200cc pro-topline intake port though as there is a bit of overhang. For a dual plane, the holley 300-36 is also a perfect match to a 1205.
sheetmetal Jul 3rd, 04, 1:56 AM ok i checked, the 1205 gasket is just slightly larger than the ports on the motown intake. like i said the motown is built just like the super victor, a BIG single plane. i dont know if its my parts selection in the engine but i have a serious fuel distribution problem with the super victor. thats why im looking for a smaller intake. the engine makes great power just not to street freindly. Dave
sheetmetal Jul 3rd, 04, 1:59 AM guys, this is kinda straying away from the small block theme i have. any ideas on a good S/B single plane? thanks Dave
thrasher Jul 3rd, 04, 2:56 AM Your kinda stuck with the old stand-bys when it comes to the small single plane.
Victor JR several models to chose from.
Weiand Team G 7530 or the 7532
 Holley Strip Dominator 300-25
I think that's about it unless you want to consider the Bowtie 10051102 or the Motown as small. The Strip Dom might be included with these two.
pdq67 Jul 3rd, 04, 4:26 PM I think you are right thrasher..
But the point is they were testing out of the box intakes if I remember right..
I think my Strip Dom. from Summit was only $147 plus tax or so back when I got it vs above $300 for a DART that they came right out in the article AND said was so tall that you probably couldn't run it without a tall scoop!!!
IMHO, the difference in height and cost of the Dart leaned me to the lower height and cheaper Strip Dom b/c my motor is by no means maxxed out....
