Hey gang,

My engine is near completion. And it will soon br dyno time. Either in the slot between Christmas and NY, or just after the first of the year.
I will have 2 setups to try. The first being my trusty 950 HP with a new Merlin 630030 intake. The second will be a 1050 HP on a Victor 454 manifold.
Just curious what you all think I can expect for a difference in HP.

The combo is as follows:
.070 over 454 with a 4.25 stroke
Approx 9.5:1 CR
AFR 305's with the CNC Chambers
Comp XR292R-10 roller .660/.666 254/260 110
2" x 33" Hookers
And the rest of the good stuff to make it live.

I know HP isn't the "end all", but it will be good to get a comparrison, and to know about how the car will perform once it's installed and running...and not raining in Oregon......sometime around the 4th of July......

I will guess the Dominator will be worth at least 30hp.

i think it will be real close, but it will be alot more responsive with the smaller carb. a Dominator is too much carb for a 9.5 to 1 compression 454, IMO.

I just had this conversation with my engine builder. I'm also building a pump gas 496. He said the dominator would make "alot" more horsepower than my 850 Demon, but that it would be "very sloppy" when driving on the street. I know those are generic terms but I wasn't fine tuning my combo, just trying to narrow things down.

It is not a 454, it is a 498. I would like to see a little more compresion as well. That is a good cam.

I would have liked to see more compression as well, but it is what it is. We have already set the valvetrain geometry, so I don't want to mess with milling the heads. Also, looks to me like the intake valve seat is right at the head surface now, and milling a significant amount off could be a problem.
As far as the carbs, my engine builder also thinks the Dominator will prevail by a lot.
I guess we will see! And I'll for sure report the results here.

I will be really curious to see what kind of power this motor makes. My 489 is nearly identical.Comp solid roller,.623/.637, 252/262@.050, 110° lobe sep. AFR 305cc CNC ports, chambers milled to 115 cc though, figures 10.4:1 w/ the recommended head gasket. Still waiting on AFR for those heads though.

Dominator carbs are very streetable on a 498 cube engine. Nothing wrong with that compression, you will be suprised how well it will run.

Thanks for the comments.
Trust me, I'm totally looking forward to the whole deal.
I am concerned about the fact that the 1050 is a list 9375 and is intended for a 2x4 carb setup according to Holley. But at the least it will give me an opportunity to "make" it work on the street.
If I have to send it off to Fuel Curve Engineering to get it to work, I'll do it.
On the other hand, if it doesn't best the 950, it will be for sale. But consensus here is that with my cam and heads and CID I'll like it. The goal is the lowest ET and highest MPH. I can tweak the street manners as required.

Purs.....nice 68! Love those cars. My 1st drag car was a 68SS. Back when no one cared......

SMS....I'll post the dyno results when it finally happens.

Bomber.....It better hit 6.40 in the 1/8th. Best with the 454 was 6.8.

Great group here.

I run a King Demon RS 995 (4500 flange) with a Super Victor on the street. I absolutely love the carb. Very responsive, NO problems...actually runs like a FI setup. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
It replaced a 1050 Dominator which gave me fits on the street. :(

Well,
We haven't set a date yet. Ran into a problem with the pickup being too far off the bottom of the pan. It's always something.
I think we will be ready within 2 weeks after the first of the year.
