I posted this over at Camaros.net but still looking for advice.

I am building an 11 to 1 383 for my 64 Corvette.
My goal is to have L88 or ZL-1 style perf from the small block engine.

i'm going to run some seriously ported GM 461 or 186 (the camel hump) heads with 2.02/1.6s. The cam i'm thinking of using is the GM offroad 1st design (140) cam. It is like 259-269 at .050 with .493/.512 lift on a 112.

I'll have a wide ratio muncie 2.52 1st gear as well as 3.73 rear end.

The intake will be the GM dual plane aluminum Z.28/LT-1 intake with atleast a Hollet 3310 if not a double pumper.

I really want to keep it looking stock and fairly easy on valve train which is why I'm suggesting the GM cam, but my only bottleneck would be that I want to run the factory style corvette "rams horn" exhaust manifolds.

I would have them extrude honed and they are 2 1/2 manifolds so they aint terrible.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Aaron

Aaron,
I think the cam and the manifolds won't work real well together. The cam will kill off your low end and the manifolds won't work too well in the rpm range where the cam wants to be. If you run a smaller cam the 11:1 compression with iron heads may be to high to run on pump gas. A local guy runs a 67 vette with a L-88 cam and exhaust manifolds and is pleased with it, so you might be too. My thought is that it would run alot better with headers.

I have seen an early 80's Chevy p/u run low 11's with a 9.5 to 1 383. this was all motor and the truck was all steel, my 85 1/2 ton weighs 3960 with an 1/8 of a tank of gas. I would drop the compression down and get with a cam maker for a cam to match.
