: Towing Capacity For a Honda Accord

I was thinking about buying a 4' X 6' trailer to haul stuff with my 1991 Honda Accord (5 spd) from Lowes to my house approximately 16 miles round trip. Can't afford a pick up truck at this moment. What would be a safe load to haul?
Thanks

General rule of thumb is that the max load should should be 1000 lbs less than the gross weight of the tow vehicle. A 4x6 trailer should be no problem.

Thank you Sir,
I was reading the max load for the trailer and it is 1600 lbs. I don't think I will put more that 600-700 lbs.

Go look at the Costco trailers, really good deal.

I had a 88' accord 5sp that was able to tow a 4'x8' (200lb trailer) and 2 dirt bikes (200 lb each).

This info should be in the owners manuel if you still have it.

The biggest problem towing with a small car is STOPPING. The trailer will push you quite a bit. Here is what not to try.

Just do a Big Block Conversion like this guy and you will be all set.

for less than the cost of that 4X6 trailer, you can buy a beat up old pickup with an 8 foot box and not worry about the towing capacity of the Honda.
plus, the neighbors will start paying you to haul their junk around, but only after they bitch about that rusted out POS truck that's sitting in your yard bringing down their property values.

Why not just rent the Lowe's truck or a Home Depot truck from across the street. :D

I think Hondas have a negative towing capacity don't they?

Check your owners manual or at a Honda dealer ship to understand the tongue weight permitted. Over loading the tongue could stress the hitch mounting and also reduces braking efficiency. I suspect if the trailer plus load is under 1000lbs not a big deal, but check to be sure.

Many people are not expecting a small car to be pulling a trailer so I would advise using side marker lights and/or conspicuity tape on the sides of the trailer.

Remember it's a UNI-BODY. Even my huge Olds is only rated for a max trailor/load capacity of 1000lbs.
