Gentelmen, I have done a search and found two postings that are very close to what has been my problem. I am sorry to revisit this, as it seems to have been done a lot. But here goes.

By a strange twist of fate, I have a 1968 SS hood on my 1969 Beaumont. I believe tht I have 1969 hinges. I know that there is a difference in the distance between the slots for mounting bolts. I drilled a new set of holes at an appropriate distance and then lengthened them into a slot about 1 inch long.

Many unsuccessful attempts were made to fit this hood. The chief problem is, when it all looks right in the up position, you put it down and the back edge backs up and tries to break the windshield or at least the large chrome piece at the bottom.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a subtle difference in the hinges that I have not taken into consideration. Sorry to flog this horse again. Any and all attention to this problem is greatly appreciate. R.B.

:noway:there are other differences.
you need some 68-chevelle/beaumont hinges or some replacement hinges from a 68-72 nova (nova-clone) as listed in the Hollander Exchange manual...

the back step on the 69 is a little different than the 68, the part that bolts to the hood. The arms are a little different lenght as well. I agree with Vince as you have to have the 68 hinges. I wish you had not enlongated the 69 hinges, they are some of the rarest hinges that I get in to be rebuilt.

I used the 68-72 Nova hinges with a '68 SS hood on our '69 el Camino and everything fit fine. Must be the same hinge as used on the '68 Chevelle.

Thanks guys, I guess I was oversimplifying or naive to think that drilling holes would cure all the problems. FWIW, when I drilled the very first two small holes, it bolted up to the hood to perfection. But fitting the hood was the proof of the pudding, and in this case it was a failure. There may be some consolation in knowing that I didn't have a chance to begin with. I am able to source some 68 hinges and springs through trades, thoughful offers from others on this line, and as a final resort purchasing them from our sponsor or another leading supplier. Thanks again. R.B.

just be careful when purchasing used hinges, that they maybe worn out. Been lots of posts on the negative feedback of repo hinges as well. Best to make sure that the hinges are in excellant condition, when you are talking about high dollar paint jobs.

Thanks WillW23, and to all the others as well. I will post if and when I get this fixed. R. B.
