Here is one of two different truck bell housings that can be used for the big, 168 teeth flywheel and an 11in clutch. This (later style) housing has a 5th upper hole, which is not needed for a car tranny, and when installed in a car, it can never be seen. If you don't care about that big added bulge on the bottom, this makes a perfect bell housing. When used with an adapter ring to install a car tranny, such as a Muncie, it works just fine. The other style truck housing only has the normal 4-bolt pattern for a tranny. The combination of a truck housing and an adapter ring not only makes an excellent bell housing setup for the 168 teeth flywheel/11in clutch,-------------------------BUT IT'S CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When using a truck housing and adapter ring, it is a GOOD IDEA, to drill and tap 2 or 3 8-32 holes and install short set screws with Allen heads. This will retain the adapter ring between the front bearing retainer and the hole in the housing so that vibrations don't cause the ring to come loose and get into the clutch area!!!!!!!!!

Great pics Tom. Do you have the dimensions for the ring? Any reason it could not be made to a slight interference fit (tap-fit) to the bellhousing to avoid the set screws?

I just removed my '80 C/10's 3-speed Sag's front bearing retainer casting that the t/o bearing ride's on and installed it on my car 4-speed Sag.

Worked like a charm. Sure wished the P/U Sag tranny part fit our Muncies b/c it is easy to switch them.

I have heard that oversize washers on the bearing retainer will also keep the ring in.

The ring I used (before I realized anything else was available) required additional machine work to the bearing retainer to hold it in place.
There is a step machined into the retainer & the retainer holds it to the trans case.

Ron,
The "GENERAL" dimensions of the ID and OD of the ring are 4 5/8 and 5 1/8. But those are NOT accurate dimensions out to the .00X.
It would be best for you to make VERY precise measurements of both the bearing retainer and the bell housing that you are going to use and then over or undersize as needed for a slight interference fit.
If I personally were going to do that, I'd make it a slip fit in the bell housing and an interference on the bearing retainer.
But for me, its just to easy to drill/tap three 8-32 threads and use set screws.
