Well, I went to the track about a week ago and haven't gotten time to reply. The only changes I made were:

Air bags
14x4 K&N Filter(replaced an O'Reilly's 3" paper element)
Line Lock(which is really nice)
Brand new plugs R44XLS AC's

First of all I have to say we were running in 100 degree heat. Last time I ran it was around 80 degrees. I really thought I would see my air bags pick the car up a lot. I never even had a pass this weekend under 11.89. I played with the air pressure in the right bag a lot and it never seemed to make a difference in what the car ran like. Going from 15 lbs to none in the air bags made the car go 11.97 and 11.97, No Difference. Again I experimented with the air in the right from 0-20 lbs and the left from 0-6 lbs. Looking at the new pics and the videos it just wasn't launching as hard as it had before. The best 60' this past weekend was a 1.62. Should I get rid of the bags?

Next question is about ignition. I had about 5 people tell me to junk my HEI and since I already have the 6al and everything to buy an MSD distributor. By the time the timing stops advancing it's about 4000-4500(girlfriend telling me and you know how that goes graemlins/clonk.gif ). Would a distributor that would allow me to set my timing easier be worth ET. I really don't know how to work over an HEI and for $200 is the MSD worth it?

Thanks for any suggestions, I've been running a head up class that is indexed. I've been running in the 11.40 index b/c the next slowest is 12.10 and it's no fun to slow down, plus I know the car has 11.40 potential I just need tuning suggestions!

The air bag is primarily a tuning device to keep the car straight. If the car is launching straight, that's about all you can expect.

The MSD would likely need to be re-curved, too. The HEI should do the trick. It just needs re-curving. I suggest having it done on a machine. That way you know exactly what you have.

Matt, what are you running for timing now? (base/total)
You say it's still advancing at 4000-4500?

Chris,

I'm running about 38 total at 4000-4500 is when it stops advancing. When doing this though I'm still leaving the vacuum advance hooked up is that the right way to do it?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,as Mike said..
You want 38* no later than 3K
Usually stock weights and light or medium springs will get you there or at least in the ballpark.
