PETE466 Nov 19th, 03, 5:59 PM Hey you all.I need some advice for -72 chevelle suspension for drag racing purposes, springs, shocks, anything? Currently having currie 9" rear, hotckiss arms+brace that ties upper and lower together, swaybar 1.5"od.,competition engineering shocks.Front stock ex.comp.70/30 shocks. With 275/60/15 BFG dragradials went at unprep smallplane track 2.12 60ft. 12.004@124.63mph. As you can see, help is needed, lol !
Bob West Nov 19th, 03, 8:41 PM What gears?
PETE466 Nov 19th, 03, 8:58 PM TH-400 with A-1 gear set 2.75 1st, 1.57 2nd and 4.33 gears at rear
mc71454 Nov 19th, 03, 9:41 PM Are the upper control arm mounts on the currie 9" higher than the stock 12 bolt mounting point, Moser does this to add "Anti-Squat" don't know about Currie.
How about listing the Entire Combination that would help too, including weight.
Thanks

Tom,
Are you sure about this? I was speaking with Moser just last week about a 12 bolt/spool setup for my car and I specifically asked if their 12 bolt housing retained the stock geometry/mounting points and I was told they did. I thought that Currie was the one that had the raised upper control arm mounting points?
PETE466 Nov 20th, 03, 7:32 AM Entire combination "old" set up(witch went that 12.004) is: chevelle -72 468BBC with 11.8:1CR, dart 320 sm cnc heads, lunati roller int.692 exh.685 @int.269 exh.276,dart singleplain,BG 9380S3 carb 1080cfm,hooker supercomp 2.125" ceramic coated, and yes upper mountings are lifted a bi(by myself) dont know about the weight guessing about 3700 it has fiber hood and lid, thinking to get fiber front bumber, bench seat,no bars.
Current mods:Heads fully ported(gaind 45 @int.),called to harold cam is allmoust on the way .738" @276 @286 at .050(BB 310 320 R10),dart dominator intake,king demon rs 1095cfm,was 3" exh., going to 3.5" w/x-pipe and straight line muffs,also baer eradispeed+ rotors and SSBC aluminum calibers,mini tubs,BFG dragradials 315/60/15,ATI PG w/1.94 1st. and mrt8" converter had th-400 with GER 10".Sorry about the long post I tend to get a bit exited :D ! Hope I did not forget anything
10secBu Nov 20th, 03, 8:26 AM What is the elevation of the track(s) you run at?
No offense, but with all the go fast goodies you have, that car is a turd on track. I truly believe you got sucked into the bigger is better mentality. It's likely that your engine builds good HP, but is severely lacking in the TQ department which is despirately needed to get 3700+ lbs moving down the 1/4 mile.
You should also go to the track when it's a regular bracket race day, not on test-n-tune days. You will find the start line to be much better prepared and have much better traction on such days...most tracks give very little start prep on T&T days knowing most street cars don't hook well anyway on street tires.
Your current changes aren't gonna help much IMO...the glide is gonna kill the launch even more. You keep going bigger which kill storque even more.
Your 320 heads were too big for a 468 in stock form, and the porting made that even worse now. You need high port velocity, not big air flow numbers. I would rather have lower flowing high quality air than to have a ton of poor quality lazy air.
You would see a clear difference if we sat down and compared parts choices between your ride and my own.
mr 4 speed Nov 20th, 03, 8:37 AM Sounds like you just need to improve your launch technique and get your 60 ft. down to a more respectable number.I run 60 fts. in the 1.83-2.0 range with my 2.73's and BFG drag radials smile.gif
Bomber '67 Nov 20th, 03, 10:28 AM Pete, its all in the launch that is for sure! With 124 mph trap speeds altitude is not the issue. Really, there is a 10.8x second car hiding in those sucky 2.12 60' times.
Item #1, simply by running a regular prepped track you will see those 60' times and 1/4 mile time plummet. An airport runway turned over to the local hot rodders is safer than the street, jut not much on traction.
Item #2, most likely if you have not yet done it you should lower your rear suspension until the lower control arm is parallel with the ground. Chech your pinion angle after lowering the rear, somewhere negative 2 to 4 degrees should be good.
Item #3, invest in a set of track only tires like E.T. Streets. The BFGs are good, they can be iffy on traction if they've been *warmed up* too many times.
That's it - let us know when you post the 10 second pass that is lurking in that car. I'll even bet that with a more proper 60' time that you may even see another mph through the traps.
Thomas
mc71454 Nov 20th, 03, 1:39 PM Ken,
yes my close friend has a brand new Moser sitting in his garage, they upper control arm mounting points are in the stock location but are 1.25" higher than stock. BUT I will call him and ask him to triple check it.
sheetmetal Nov 20th, 03, 3:01 PM Ken, i bought the same housing that John Wilson bought for his 67, John was the one that pointed the higher location out to me. when i called Moser to order mine (forgot who i talked to) i brought this up. Moser told me, they raise the upper bushing holes 7/8" on both the 12 bolt and 9" housings. i dont have the tools to post a pic or i would. there is a difference. Dave

This might sound crazy and I would not recommend it on the street but for a weekend of straightline runs it helps us. Try different settings on your shocks and unbolt or totally remove the front swaybar, this will help weight transfer and should improve your 60 foot times.
Also, what pressure are you running in the slicks?
