: 67 El Camino
CaminoChick25 Nov 8th, 07, 1:14 PM I am currently getting together all the parts I need to restore my 67 El Camino, it was my first car, and I worked on it with my dad until he died last year. So this winter, a friend of ours is doing all the body work (and it needs a lot of work) and paint for me. I am wondering if there is any website I can go to with the parts I need.
I also am unsure what parts will work, the floor under the smugglers hideaway is rusted through, I think a trunk pan for a chevelle goes there, but without Dad to ask, I am not totally confident in that. I also need new rear wheel wells, both quarters, and a tailgate. I got a new hood and new fenders already. But I am not sure if the wheel wells from a chevelle will work, and where in the world I can find quarters.
Also, I am wondering what color to go with. It is currently the stock Nantucket Blue. My Mom (who is funding this restoration) says she wants to keep it stock. I am curious as to what you guys think.
Any tips on how best to make this restoration work would be fantastic!

This would be a good place to start.
Virtually everything from the seat to the front bumper is all chevelle.
The doors are Elcamino only
Some wagon parts will work aft of the doors.
Rear bumper is EC only
The people at the ElCamino are pretty good to deal with, and occaisionally can come up with an obscure used part.
I used them extensively during my 59 Elky build, and will most likely be using them for the 66 Elky I am just getting started on.
Chuck Nov 8th, 07, 8:03 PM Hey Kat. Welcome. I would stay with the stock color... unless you want it RED! LOL. My first one was red with black stripes. Goodmark makes most of the body parts and that is likley what the ElCamino store carries. You can also get parts from yearone.com in the south and OPG.com on the west coast. Don't forget the TC sponsor ss396.com but they are in New York and big parts cost a bunch to ship.
Good luck, Kat. Please let us know who it comes along...and post pictures.

67ElkyBryan Nov 9th, 07, 9:36 AM Your generation of El Camino is basically a two door wagon with the top cut off so most body panels for a wagon will work. Now for the bad news. A lot of the body panels are not being reproduced for a 67'. Like was said earlier from the doors forward any Chevelle panel will fit. So those are not a problem. It's been a couple years since I had the panels replaced on mine. But at that time only the front clip and floor pans were avaliable. I think it's getting better.
As far as suppliers. The El Camino Store and Ground Up are both great places. Also NPD, Ausley's, The Paddock, EC Parts, Sloan's almost any place that carries Chevelle parts will carry El Camino parts.
Be careful with Original Parts Group. They have almost everything you need but their quality can be spotty. .....(A small part of this post was deleted)... Have fun restoring your 67' and good luck. In the long run it will be worth it. At least that's what I keep telling myself. I'll let you know if it's true if I ever get mine finished.
CaminoChick25 Nov 9th, 07, 10:21 AM Thank you very much! This should help a lot, thanks!

They are here. I have to wait for the ground to freeze before my friend will have time to start work. So, hopefully it should snow next week, and we can get started!
Bryan59EC Nov 18th, 07, 12:28 PM Looks like a good project car.
I have my 66 on stands in my driveway.
Needs minimal quarter panel repair, some windshield and rear window reveal repair, and a manual trans (refuse to drive it with the powerglide)
rak1 Nov 19th, 07, 11:13 AM Nice '67!!! Good looking Elky.
MalibuSeaS Nov 19th, 07, 4:29 PM Mom knows best? Keep it Nantucket blue with a white gut. I'm sure dad would want it that way.
Jerry Briggs Nov 19th, 07, 5:00 PM Kat, to me they look the best in factory colors. The 67 elky I am restoring is green, but the cowl tag shows it to be originally red, how about that Chuck. That is the color i am going back with. Looks like you have a nice project. Keep us informed as you travel the path. Good Luck. Jb
dgflife Nov 20th, 07, 11:17 AM Nice car...good luck and enjoy the ride!!!!
OLDED Nov 20th, 07, 2:17 PM My 65 had 3 layers of paint on top of the original white. For a while I was thinking about some exotic new color but the more I looked at it, it talked to me and I bought the correct white. It had a Turquoise interior and everyone wanted me to make it black - wrong again, I am putting it back stock. Under the hood and floor though it will be exactly what GM should have done in 65 - the 396, TH 400 and a locker. It'll look like a resto/original with a column shifter, but with proper driveline pieces. Each to their own - make it the way you want it and don't look back. By the way, I really like the original Nantucket Blue anyway. OLDED
cuisinartvette Nov 21st, 07, 11:00 PM Good luck with the resto, Id never do one again but hope to be happy with the end result. Another fan of original colors....White on red bucket interior. Went with the same colors, just updated the shades a little to make it pop more. Look stock ouside, screamin motor under the hood, stealth rules.
Enjoy :beers:.
sschevellefan Nov 22nd, 07, 12:41 PM my 67 is originaly nantuket blue on blue. needs a ton of work but I`ll probably go back to original colors. I`m a fan of original colors as well. To me it`s kinda like preserving history and shows the era of when these cars were new.
CaminoChick25 Jan 6th, 08, 11:22 AM Well, the El Camino went to the shop today, so now it is time for the anxious waiting for it to be finished.
Marv D Jan 7th, 08, 8:59 AM My 67 has been in bodyshop prison for about a month now. It's hard being patient, but body work is something you sure don't want to rush.
