: head work (?)
slpin Mar 20th, 04, 4:59 PM hey - just picked up a set of 215s, they look really new and looks like it could be bolted on (maybe hardened seats on the exhaust side?), i will get new springs for it, but im not sure if it could support .53 lift? the thingy ontop of the valve looks pretty long. it had been pocket ported and i think i will get new valves for them (which one should i get?) my pistons are L2240 21cc and .182 dome. it is for a 396 with a 278adv 240@050 cam, so i dont think bigger valves are nescessary? also any idea on what power it should pull out?
thanks! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Bob West Mar 20th, 04, 11:20 PM 2.19/1.88 valves minimum...big blocks like to breathe. Will that dome work in a closed chamber oval port? Ed runs flat tops or used to and was at 10.7-1 with those? Help Brian graemlins/beers.gif

Motor Martyr Mar 21st, 04, 12:34 AM Ed used to run: TRW # L2399F pistons with Speed Pro Plasma Moly file fit rings
this TRW has an .095" dome.
Ed now runs small dome Wiesco pistons.
427L88 Mar 21st, 04, 6:31 AM Alan, I would tend to agree. USATFL only had the intakes done, which I would have never thought of, but makes some sense. The machinist probably didn't want to risk breaking into the water jackret around the exhaust. For a 396, I'd run them the way they are. Have no idea on power.
Your L2240 is designed for a CC head I do beleive.
mr 4 speed Mar 21st, 04, 6:41 AM I have a 396 running those .182 domed pistons with 215 heads down in the garage..

pdq67 Mar 21st, 04, 10:20 PM Oh, you mean the valve guide??
OK, but please come back if it isn't what you mean b/c I have no idea what a thingy is AND I AM NOT trying to be smart-headed here at all.
I once didn't realize that the caps on top of SB springs are actually oil drip cups so I ask what stuff is now..
