Nice to see the green 70 in action. It seems like yesterday when Brian and I put the fuel system and rearend in it (which BTW is a Currie 9" ford with 31 spline axles) and I was showing him tailights. He'll be tickling the 8's soon..... that's all I'm gonna say about that ;)
How bout that Pops?

That sure doesn't look like your typical 8 second ride..............where can I get more info such as specs and pics?

Hi Tony Z, Were not to the eights yet but getting close. Probably about the eighth mile equivalent of a 9.20 but the juice wasn't working right as we only ran 116.6 and the car has been over 120 MPH in the eighth. The tune up was worse at Tulsa but traction was better. We also had the old tire and wheel combo at Tulsa and so we haven't gotten a good run yet on a full quarter mile. Maybe Saturday. Whats that '70 with the 580 BBC run? I like the quote at the bottom of your posts.

To Tony Z, Forgot to answer your question. The combo is a Dart Block 540" with 13-1 comp., ATI Turbo 350 with N2O converter, Ford 9" with 3.89 gears, M/T 10.5W E.T. Drags on 10" wheels and Hotchkiss adjustable upper control arms. My son also added Moroso springs to the front and rear and relocated the battery to the trunk and added a 16 gallon fuel cell.

Yes hilljack thats what the promoter calls the class and it is sometimes driven but i try to discourage it. Anything that can go 60 MPH in 60' doesn't belong on the street. P.S. The gas is $8 a gallon.

Harold Sutton,
Bad Ass Chevy!! But, could you reveal just a little :D more about the chassis set up? My Chevelle looks identical and probably configured real close. If I could get mine to hook that good, I'd feel like I hit the friggin lottery!!Thanks, Nick

Hi 70SS540, The thing that has brought the traction around are the new M/T E.T. Drags tires and accompaning 10" wheels. 28 x 10.5W tires. This set required almost no balancing which is a clue to how good tires are. The car has Hotchkiss control arms with the uppers being adjustable and the lowers solid. I think my son said it has a -4 degree pinion angle at rest. It has Moroso springs at both ends. The car also has a Currie 9" Ford rear end with 3.89 gears and a seperate anti-roll bar by Dick Miller. The tires have to sit dead centered in the wheelwell in order to fit and the car should be level at rest. (The tires just plain bite at about 12 pounds of air pressure.) It has three way C/E shocks at both ends. I don't know where they are set. This rear end is a little different width than a chevy so you might have to mock it up for wheel fitment.

Harold S.,
Thanks for sharing the info. I have copied and pasted!! I knew your car is configured close to mine. I got the exact same slicks on not sure width Weld Aluminum wheels. 12 bolt with moser axles. I have SSM uppers (non-adustable) and lowers. Dont know what the pinion angle is yet. I also have the CE three way drag shocks 90/10 front, ? setting in rear. Dont know what springs I have. front sway bar removed. HR Partsnstuff anti-roll bar going in rear. Battery in trunk. I also need a roll bar(safety) to stiffen the chassis.
I was thinking I may just have too much HP (830 @ 7000 700 lbs torque @ 6000 on motor)for my tire size, but looks like your running just as much if not more! I take it your trans braking that car too.
Well at least I got some hope now!!
Thanks again! graemlins/beers.gif Nick

Harold,

Thanks for the above information and I'm glad you like the quote at the end of my posts. It's from a very beautiful young lady I know and it sure rings true sometime!!

If possible, I'd like to get some pics of the car at rest from the side and a 3/4 shot to see how it sits with the 10W tire under it. I'd also like a PN for the tire too if you don't mind. I'm looking to put the same tire under my car but I didn't think it would fit to be honest.

My car is still under construction and should be out in February or March. Here's some pics from previous posts.

I'm looking for the 8's once I get everything ironed out with a little spray but we'll see how that goes. If you have any questions or I can be of any assistance, please ask as I am sure I'll be picking your brain if you're willing to give up secrets.........!! You are obviously sucessful and I'd like to shorten my learning curve a little if possible.

I'm going away for a couple of days so I might be a little slow in responding but I'll get back to you one way or another. Thanks again for the current info and I look forward to talking with you.
