I have a chevy silverado 1992 that i use to haul my chevelles with when i bought them, a couple of weeks ago i noticed a problem, i think it is caused by the colder air right now in cali.. Well my question is it is a chevy engine and the problem seems to be when you move the steering..in the morning when you move the steering with the engine cold it idles perfectly but as soon as it starts to warm up, and you move the steering wheel while in drive or any other gear, it stumbles and dies, you have to keep the gas in a little to keep it from dying, this has the tbi system in there, i will be moving to sacramento cali, about 5 or 6 hours in december and have to fix this problem before i move..anyone have a hint or clue of what it could be, i already rebuilt the engine thinking it was that but nothing.. you notice it more in the colder weather thanks:beers:

On some of those fuel injected trucks there is a Power Steering pressure switch. So when you steer it the pressure switch sends a signal to the ECM to bump up the idle.

What, that sounds interesting, where would that be located, that could be my problem.

it is in the PS pressure line.

Now how would i know my truck has that line..Is there any visual way of knowing..how would i find out if it originally came with that, also i used to get the tps sensor voltage too low code...but i thought it was my scanner that was wrong...

the power steering pressure switch is in one of the rubber lines that runs from the pump mounted on the passenger side of the engine to the steering box. somewhere between the pump and the steering gear, there is a plug with 2 wires that plugs into the line. that's the PS pressure switch- which i personally think is pretty damn useless. i unhooked it on my 94 Caprice to see if it made any difference, and it didn't.
but i'm thinking your problem might have to do with the TPS code that's in the computer.

Yea, i thought so too, i guess my pump does not have that switch as i dont see any wires from the pressure line, I thought so too about the tps sensor, i was told that sometimes if there is a leak in the intake system, that happens to it...i was also told it might be a neg cable that is loose, tried that but nothing, i also replaced the ecu and same thing, i know this is a chevelle forum guys so please forgive the dareness of posting this here, it is just that i guess technically this has something to do with chevelles as i use this truck to haul them around, and now that im moving im actually trying to look more into it.. well thanks i will try to find out more and see if i can get it diagnosed again to see what is up with that sensor.
