Any recomendations on gear lube for a fresh set of rear gears? Is it OK to run synthetic lube with fresh gears, or do they require break in with conventional lube? Also looking for thoughts on brand and weight of lube. 9" 4.11's, detroit locker. Thanks!

Craig,
I know that Richmond recommends using thier synthetic lube from the start. I dont think that gears are like piston rings as far as break in goes. I would think the more lubrication the better in this case. I dont set up a lot of rears, but have used Richmonds Synthetic lube in every one I have done and have not had a single problem.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Bill! That's good news. I do want to run synthetic, and was not wanting to run conventional for break in, as my rear has no drain an would be a pain to swap later.

I used Lucus gear lube with GM limited slip additive

Ive got syngear in mine. I think that Mobil 1 and Amsoil are good too. Just stay away from the race only and qualifying blends.
