Is it possible to chemically dye your carb parts safely at home? Apparently some of the acids used in the process are dangerous. Is yes, are there any kits available?

Rob;

Yes, it's possible, but it's definitely not practical if all you want to do is one carburetor. Besides, there's a lot more involved in properly re-plating a carb than just dipping it in some chemicals. And yes, the chemicals involved can be very dangerous, if not lethal if mis-handled or accidentally ingested.

At the risk of sounding like a plug, which is not my intent...

For what you'll invest in the chemicals/plating kits/etc., then going through the learning curve trying to figure out what does and does not work, you'll be time and $$$ ahead sending it out, not to mention you'll be saving yourself considerable aggrivation. (go ahead...ask me how I know all this ;) )

What's it cost to replate a dissasembled carb? Not actually rebuilding it.

You guys need to check out Erics web site.

I'm thinking his prices are really reasonable. I know you can do them yourself, but a full blown restoration for what he charges is just plain cheap. :thumbsup:

Check out Vintage Musclecar (Eric) who posted above. Everyone seems to be pleased with the work that he does for them and he is a great help to the site as well. Do I get a discount for saying this? ;)

If you send the q-jet put to Sean murhpy Induction/SMI (chk his website).Sean will completely restore it,bush prim shaft/redye & plate all associated parts/hardware and set up the fuel calibration specifcally for your motor so carb runs well right put of the box for approx $325 but chk his site for exact cost.

I had sean do plating work for me in the past and the carb looks like new when he is done,sean is currently doing a caryter thermalo quad for me off a 72 duster 340 4dsp survivour that had approx 70k original miles on it and its a very clean car /fun to work on.

If you call Sean tell him Scott from t/chevelle reffered you to him.
