Anyone care to venture a guess on how much 60ft improvement I can expect going from BB a/c springs to Moroso trick springs or the Moog equivalent? Thanks

Tom (mc71454) has some good info on this I beleive.. 6 cyl Chevelle springs would be best, trying that shock nut trick, and disconnecting the front sway bar should all add up

I think the BB a/c springs are more condusive to carrying weight up front, but not weight transfer. I've loosened the shocks, completely removed the sway bar two different times with no improvements. I'm thinking I need some kangaroos between the A-frames smile.gif

Bob,

The right spring up front can make a big difference. Several years ago a buddy of mine was running consistent 11.20's @ 123 with a 1.64-1.66, 60' time. Spinning of course. He changed to a more drag oriented spring with more stored energy. The next time out, the car went a best of 10.75 @ 123.5 on a 1.46 60'. The thing would hook on snot and carry the tires to just about the 60' markers.

This was on a 3200 lb Mustang Coupe with a 302 and spray so the type of springs are not really relevant. Just an example of how much difference the right spring will make.

I seem to be gettin good rise out of the front end,its just not holding it long enough,,,seems to hook then spin or rise then unload,it seems if I had some of that stored energy to keep it up just a tad longer it would make a big difference.

Bob,

If you are getting good rise and then it is unloading, then you need to slow the rate of rise down. You should be able to do it with shock settings if you have adjustable shocks. What type of shocks are you running?

Either that or add more power to hold it up longer. ;) j/k

Your car is looking good BTW graemlins/thumbsup.gif

thanks Jason...I've got the cheapy summit adjustables on the front set at 70/30...maybe I just need to invest in a good set of shocks, or try 50/50...the pics I have of it leaving the line show pretty much full extension...just borderline of lifting it.

Stopped by the parts store tonight to find out exactly what springs I had...forgot the part number but they are 15" free standing,11" installed height with 487 spring rate...the MOOG 6330's are 17.5 free height,11.25" installed height with 293 spring rate...do you think that would help me out with some weight transfer? I seem to be getting good rise out of the front end,top of the fender looks to be almost 5-6" above the front tire with the tire just about to come off the ground. I'm new to this tuning the suspension stuff. Since I'm pretty much set on using this motor all season, figured I could try upgrading other places. Is it worth the 74.00 for the new springs? TIA

Bob,
i dont know if 68 and 72 spring diameters are the same, but here's what Ed uses:

Moog 5392

17.95".......................Free height
11.50".......................loaded
266 lbs./in..................rate
.61...........................wire diameter
2026.........................total load

the 6330 looks similar to this, but with a little heavier spring rate.

It seems like those 6330's ought to let me get a little more transfer and a little quicker too.

Not more then the 5392 would...but more then the current set of springs would, definetly.

The 5392's have been discontinued,no longer in the book...the 6330's are real close though graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Could your rear end be binding and pushing the front end down? This happened with my machine shops drag car - had to float the rear axle. Long shot i know....

I get good lift from the front end,,,the rear does not squat or raise for that matter, seems to hold pretty level. I'm not sure if its not enough lift, quick enough or just not holding it long enough.
