there`s a certain "knowledge" here in finland that gm td truck blocks have tendency to crack at second oilhole counting from front.i`ve seen that kind of block and the guy who tried to sell it to me said they are all like that and gyus race them anyway.so my dilemma is i have a chance to buy brand new block straight from factory with 4.24 bore.machined by gm.price is 640 bucks and my partner pays the half.that`s 320 for new block.is it true that these blocks have tendency to crack at second oilhole in main saddle?any info more than appreciated!!

It's not anything I've heard of...but I'll be watching this thread, and maybe I'll learn something.
Can you be more specific about where the cracks are supposed to occur? Are we talking about the 2nd main bearing web area from the front of the engine?
Know anyone on the World Junior Hockey team? Maybe they could "smuggle" a 427 tall deck back to Finland for you by wrapping it in goalie pads. Finland's team will be playing in my home town in about a month, and I've got a TD block-or two- you could have for LOTS less than $640 American dollars. Sell one to pay for the other...

I've been around the tall deck blocks since they were being crossed into the high performance field . I've never seen or heard of the 2nd oil hole having crack problems . Could have been an isolated problem due to casting flaws or harmonics . Never heard of it myself .

I run one in a blower motor setup, never seen that either, nor heard of it...sounds more like an isolated incident.

hello schurkey.yes it`s the second oilhole in mainbearing area.i`m still little concerned cause the guy has gone tons of bbc and said they all have the fault or it was sales talk.schurkey,i`ve played 4 international games in finlands national team.there are couple of guys from our town also.the prices we pay here for parts are about the double you guys pay.my blown 540 cost me about 20000$ but everything was new.i know what kind engine could`ve build in u.s with those money.kinzli,i agree. too much is just about right.
