I plan to upgrade my fuel system with a spin on fuel filter back near the tank, larger stainless hard lines, braided soft lines rerouted away from engine heat and a glass type inline filter close to the carb. Carb is a q-jet, pump is a mechanical type (but probably upgraded somehow) and car will be a daily street driver when it is put back together.

What kind of fuel filter kits are out there for spin on filters. Would a deisel filter adapter from another car/truck work? Just want to know whats out there that works. thanks

I am using the permacool system (only filter) I have no filter past the fuel pump.

I also am in the process of cutting open that filter to see how it worked last season

I use the Fram Filter. I would not advise using the glass filters. I know 2 people personally that lost cars due to those failing.

I am just curious, why upgrade a very well designed GM fuel system when it seems based on your intended use it is not necessary.

I agree on the glass filters, Also they are not allowed on any drag race track.

ditto on the glass filters,i avoided a disaster-in-the-making when i noticed a subtle fuel leak around one end of my glass filter.it turns out the threads on some of the cheapos tend to be made of cheap pot metal and don't hold up well to consistant vibrations from the engine.mine worked loose and allowed a gap in the o-ring end seal and started leaking.i bought a fram for my next project. tongue.gif

I run the Mallory Comp 500, but the o-ring seal is kind of touchy. I have to be sure to lubricate the 0-ring and spin the canister on absolutely straight. I have pinched more than one o-ring and the filter leaked as a result.

I run the Russel Filter w/ 2 inlets/2outlets and have run it for 14 yrs now. I have it before a BG 280 fuel pump. I use both inlets coming from the fuel celland only one out to the pump.
